I wonder if in SC2, there is going to be adjustable terrain heights. An example is like a hill,or make dents in the ground. Also can there be more layers of certain terrain heights eg temple. Instead of just one, there can be 2 or 3 layers on top... I've already seen some of it in the colossus screen shot, when they attack the marines ;D.

From what we've been told, it will be a lot like the original SC, but there will be a few more levels of terrain. We have not seen any indication of anything but otherwise flat ground.

Thats what I have heard as well.

What UI am hoping for is if we have tiered terrain but there are hills on each tier

So far I noticed their are 3/4 initial height levels:
    Ground level
    Raised 1 (Sc had this)
Raised 2 (sc only had this as temple but not normal dirt)
    Raised 3 (not too sure)

Me555 do you want it adjustable like WC3? Where there are dents and all sorts of stuff, but it would be nice if the Terrain could be affected by attacks, explosives, and as time goes by it changes.

visually stuff slides down ramps and i assume explosions change too (although that has yet to be seen). Altho i like the idea of hills affecting combat, just i dont want there to be hills, rather just ramps, but you should lose more guys fighting up a ramp then fighting down one. that would be more true to starcrafts gameplay.

You it probably does. In Sc1 if you fired at a unit wich was on a higher elevation there would be a chances your unit misses its shots.

yeah but i was refering also to melee. think about it if you are above someone you can strike them with more force.

    Yeah perhaps...
Did you know that towers in middle-age were designed so that the defender (the one in the top), could attack with his right arm, and the attack had to attack with his left one?

I guess sort of... I tried using a 3D editor in this game and you could pull the ground so it could go really steep so it looks like a mountain. In SC2 it wouldnt look great. I reckon a little hill would do The premade cliffs are good enough for me ;). Also I wonder if u can make the ground slope into a cliff so there wouldnt have to be ramps specially adjusted to that.

If you wanted to change terrain height like that you could. They had it in the WC3 editor, so there's no reason they wouldn't have it in the SC2 editor. If anything it'll be even more powerful, seeing as the new editor will be years ahead of WC3's.

BTW you can make the ground slope into a cliff by using the 'plateau' button. But that mostly just raises the terrain to a certain, uniform height in a certain area, which makes the point of making it a "cliff" useless.

yeah thats why the stairs all spiral clockwise.
