    Hi,

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop, and I'd like to know if it can run sc2.

    Details:
    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
    Pentium Dual-Core CPU, T4200 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs)
    4GB RAM

Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
    Internal DAC type
    358 MB approx total memory

Could anyone let me know if this is enough to play without suffering from any serious problems or performance issues? If you need more info just ask!

    Thanks in advance

Intel graphics are going to do you in as far as trying to get the best graphics out of the game but yes you will be able to play the game though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not worried about having top performance on my laptop, just so long as it plays without frame rate issues etc. So if I keep the visual settings on low, hopefully it should be fine. I guess I'll order it tomorrow then!

You can bet the settings will be on low I have a laptop with Intel graphics for now as well and my settings are all on low or off altogether, lol. However I can still play as it is only slow when doing the campaign.

By the way 358 Mbs of memory is a weird number to have for mem, should be like 384. Your computer lets you share that much RAM for video ?

Even running on low, I know from personal experience the Intel 965 just won't cut it. I swear I get -3 FPS (yes, I can count how many frames are going by.. its THAT slow).

I wouldn't even bother trying to play the game. I stopped on this system...

Can you even get a negative frame rate? That would mean it's going back in time...

The measurement is Frames Per Second. SO if you get 1 frame every 3 seconds, what is that? lol

That would be .333333... FPS.... (3*1/3=1). FPS is a point, not a float.

Back on topic, unfortunately, it's fairly boilerplate when we say that most portable chips don't cut it.

Yep that's what it tells me- a maximum graphics memory of 358 Mbs.

But from the other responses it seems like I won't be able to play the game- do you have the same Intel graphics as me or something better?

i have the exact same Intel 965. That is what you will be dealing with... .33333FPS. It is seriously that bad.

A frame every 3 seconds isn't that bad! If i have several weeks free, I might even be able to complete a whole campaign mission! =P

I was just hoping that Makeahole has the same card as me, and seeing as his works, maybe mine might too. I know yours doesn't, but I'm gonna write that off as an anomaly. Denial will make it work somehow!

Worse case scenario is that I play it just on my desktop, but it's getting quite old now. Can I just check if a 256 MB ATI Radeon X600, Pentium Dual Core @ 3.6GHz and 1GB RAM is enough for that?

    Thanks

Looks like you're in luck. You'll be playing on low, but I think the X600 should be able to hack it.

Sorry I don't have 965 I have GS45 from an E Series Latitude. My biggest problem is that I only have 2 GB of RAM and I’m running Vista. When SC cranks up it really starts to hit my page file cause I don't have enough RAM on board to keep it happy. Like I said though I only have problems when in campaign mode.

Going to up my RAM to 4 GB and that should help out.

I guess I won't be able to use it on my laptop then- ah well, one less distraction at uni at least...

Hopefully it'll work on the desktop, so I'll get my fix during the holidays!

    Thanks for the help guys.

Just a comment, not all Intel graphics perform the same. I think the G45 almost doubles the 965G's performance and newer Clarkdale graphics nearly double the G45's. Sandy Bridge is supposed to double Clarkdale's graphics performance.

However, AMD Fusion is supposed to bring us HD 5670 level graphics on a unified CPU+GPU. :D

Your desktop is WAYYY more suited to play the game. Hell, add another 1GB-3GB of ram and update the X600 drivers with the newest legacy ATI drivers, and you should be good to go. Hell, spend some money and replace that video card and you'll prob have a decent gaming machine.

I think he has a Pentium D 3.6 GHz, not to mention the X600 is pretty old so there's a possibility the desktop uses AGP.

We can always see. Lets run a dxdiag and see what kind of hardware its got.

To run dxdiag=> Windows_logo_key+r, dxdiag. If you have 64-bit windows, click the button at the button that says "Run 64-bit DxDiag," Then save all the data by clicking "Save All Information..." zip/rar the text file and attach it to the post. Instructions on how to zip here. To create a rar file, first download and install winRAR then read this guide here.

I was hoping I could get some input regarding whether or not it would even be worth trying to buy this game...

    Running Windows XP with..

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core - 3800+
    2.0 GHz, 3 GB Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

Thanks for any input you could give..

Read the FAQ. Video is one generation above the min requirement so you should be good to go on at least low. May need to make sure all your system drivers are up-to-date. Read instructions on posting a dxdiag in FAQ and post them in your own thread in Computers and Technology.
