I haven't stayed very PC literate, so how to rate video cards, etc is a bit like deciphering a foreign language for me.

Can someone tell me if the following system specs would be suitable for running SC II in Ultra. I think I had sluggish problems before, and I want to make sure it is the system specs being too low and not a software/hardware issue I need to troubleshoot.

    Specs:
    Computer Specs
    CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Quad Core Processor 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    Memory: 6GB DDR3 at 1333MHz
    Hard Drive: 128GB SSD
    Graphics Cards: 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M
Operating System: Windows 7 64 Bit Home Edition

That system should be little bit faster overall than my laptop, and my laptop can handle Ultra settings no problem. So I think it's safe to say that hardware should not be a limiting factor.

Handle ultra at what resolution? Resolution is important, and nVidia mobile cards don't perform as well as their desktop equivalents. Your system will play it just fine, but don't become obsessed with playing it on ultra. the 9800GTX/GT250 512MB plays the game fine as on all ultra settings, except for High textures at around 1680x1050.

Moving this thread to where it belongs...

1280x720 presently, so resolution shouldn't be an issue.

I'll try kicking it back up later. I had a lot of problems with it initially....tried it out in a campaign and in multiplayer and both resulted in notice control problems/sluggishness.

Sounds like it may have been a different issue though.

I know my laptop wasn't going to run as well as a desktop, but I was still under the impression I should be able to get pretty smooth play at higher graphic settings (not even necessarily ultra, but wanted to start there). The answers I'm getting seem to confirm that.

    Thanks.

get a gts 450 $130 if your ona budget, if you got more money to spend the gtx460 $230 range is awesome and a bit overkill, but so sexy smooth.

The Geforce GTX 460 will be just perfect imo, as it allows for higher resolutions later on,

I would also recommend getting a widescreen monitor as sc is formatted for widescreen, so essentially you are missing out some of the screen

I don't think that card is designed for a laptop. You might have missed that part. :p

Oh trust me, there are ways of making it work, they just aren't pretty and for super advanced users. lol I'd love to try doing that mod, but I'm not sure my mom would want me tearing up her laptop. lol
