    No, no I haven't.

    But it looks awesome :)

Are those big things swarm guardians? They look different from SC1 but still badass. Anyone know what their projectile looks like (I can't see it in the picture)? I want to see if their projectile matches their appearance.

That's a pretty nice screenshot, thanks for sharing.

    @Hodl pu
Yup, those are the new Swarm Guardians. I'm pretty certain that those green, shiny blobs are the projectiles of the Swarm Guardians. They look awesome, especially on impact. Look at that Stalker at the top, the blob that hits it really gets deflected. Excellent animation. The old Guardian projectiles just exploded on impact, this is much better. :D

One question though: can anyone tell me what that semi-invisible thing next to the Overlord is? Is it just an Observer or am I going crazy?

Yeah it's an observer. As for the projectile, it looks great. A bigger acid bomb for a bigger guardian :)

i remember when it was on the starcraft2.com official website. and then it was taken off about a week later. it was with the other pics that showed the new graphics and all that kool stuff with the Zerg opening.

the big green acid bomb is its attack, and i think as i remember hearing when the unit the swarm gaurdain is attacking dies it changes into broodlings. although the swarm gaurdian needs to be the last one to attack it so the effect goes into place.

though i hope they officially tell us about the gaurdian in the next blizzcon. :D

The latest I heard is that a Broodling is created for every hit. The new Guardian has a longer cooldown (I think) and is more expensive though.

Does this attack summon a unit for every hit?

    If so:

Does it work only on organic targets?
    Does it work on buildings?
Does it work on your own units?

If yes to all that, correct me if I am wrong, but that means you could therefore ask all your guardians to spam their attacks on one of your less useful buildings, when an attack is about to come in your base, in order to build some meatshield for free.

That sounds a bit some kind of abuse to me.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a passive summoner, but this way... come on, that means you can basically summon an army from nowhere!

A Broodling automatically dies after like 5 - 10 seconds so that's not a viable strategy.

Especially considering you'd have to have about fifty Swarm Guardians to start producing Broodlings before you even see them in order to have a large enough meat shield. You'd be better off without the meat shield and with a normal army. Especially if they were attacking from the air. Not to mention that Guardians will naturally create a small meat shield during the actual fight, and there's also the fact that Zerg, being Zerg, are a meat shied.

    Ok,
    good.
    I agree.
I just feared those things would be like the skeletons in WC3 (with a basic lifetime of 30 seconds).

Even if it is old, everytime I look at the picture I get the sensation that this game will be the bomb. That Swarm Guardian attack annimation "green bulb" looks awesome.

I pray that the swarm guardian have variable projectile sizes (like Guardians of the original starcraft)... that way when a swarm of swarm guardians attack a single target, it looks less mechanical (in that bullets and missiles are all the same)... while organic sacs of acid could be different (yet still deal 20 dmg a hit hehe)

I agree, I hope so as well, as different animations for the melee attackers, for the explosions etc, in addition of possibly some oil splashes and stains for the terrans vehicles, with pieces of steel, kind of psychic sparks and/or smokes for the protoss stuff, and blood and flesh for the zergs. I would love a game where every unit and every action and every piece of the background are not the exact copy/paste of the previous one.

technically with a 5-10 second time for the broodling before it dies you could say the broodling gets 2-3 attacks out.

its a pretty good aerial bombardment strat. if you are to find one. the swarm gaurdians seem to be late tier 3 so i dont see many of them in any tournament games.

I don't know about you but the Swarm Guardian shooting balls of acid which turns an enemy into a broodling seams odd?
