Well I have noticed that many people dislike the Jackal. I know for one it isn't the most creative of units as it is very similar to the Lurker which should be left exclusivly Zerg.
People say they want the Firebat to return as there is no way of countering Dark Swarm since everything is melee. As you know, Archons can attack under the Dark Swarm, along with tank splash damage. Whether or not the Jackal can damage units under a Dark Swarm is up to Blizzard as we have no idea yet.
So lets discuss as to why the Jackal doesn't cut it and what could and should replace it.

I think Terran have enough area of effect attackers to combat Dark Swarm already. However the vast, vast majority of their Anti-Ground area of effect damage comes from Ground units. The Jackal just adds to the already extremely capable Ground-to-Ground area of effect faction of the Terran army. This is why it should be scrapped to allow the return of the Banshee's Air-to-Ground area of effect attack allowing for more versatility when combating a Dark Swarm as they won't be limited to the Ground and can also Cloak, hiding them from other counters.
I'd like a brand new unit to replace the Jackal, preferably Ground-to-Air. The Cobra didn't work, the Jackal doesn't and the Firebat would mean that they're bringing back too many old units.

At the moment the Banshee just has a normal attack. It fires several rockets at a single Ground target per hit. Basically, it's a Battlecruiser minus the health, Anti-Air attack and special weapon. Sure it has Cloak, but that's not enough to differentiate them. If Blizzard released a Marine with less health, no Stim Packs, now Anti-Air attack but had Cloak, we'd all be against it, so how is the Banshee any different?

    Copied post:

I'm not happy with the Jackal really.

I say bring back the Vulture, with the Marauder's grenade effect, and bring back the Firebats.
To replace old units, we'd still have the Nomad, Banshee, Viking, Thor, Reaper.
And some of the old units are being mixed up.
So I'd think if my idea were ever to be followed through, it'd be fine. Hopefully.
    D:

Also, I have a bone to pick with the Medivac Dropship. And Thor.

My reply to that has been quoted in the opening post. If two new units are replaced with two old units wouldn't be a good step for the Terran in StarCraft2. Out of all the Protoss' units, over fifty percent of them are new, and that's including certain old units such as the Probe and Observer. The same should go for the Terran and Zerg.

Yeah I see the problem though now.

Whatever motorcycle-like machine the Terran get, it better be hosting the same pilot the Vulture has.

I like the Jackal's concept I just don't like it's attack. It doesn't look futuristic enough and it doesn't seem to have a niche. Maybe if just the weapon was changed it would be enough to keep it in?

You know what ? I personally dislike the cobra, the jackal and the firebat. If I have to choose between them I choose the firebat just because it will come from SC.

However I just voted for the Jackal because I like this idea of a buggy in the starcraft universe.

A new unit ? If so, I suggest to it to morphe like the siege tank and the viking. Why not a ground unit just attacking air enemies and will have to morphe to attack ground units (or just structures) ?

@ItzaHexGor (Banshee) It fires two rockets per shot.

Then it would be a Viking as that unit already transforms to engage ground or air.
I think Terran should get an exclusive GtA long range vehicle. Its unique, no other race has an exclusive GtA unit and it also fits in well as we being humans and the Terran, we already have such vehicles.

IMO, they should not keep the Jackal as they are using an existing mechanic which was and should be exclusive to the Lurker. I wouldn't want the Lurker to be cut cuz of a Jackal. Plus the Jackal isn't very creative, its just a long range Firebat.

I agree with Psionicz. It is just a very long range firebat that seems pretty worthless. Just looking at what we have so far i am going seige tanks vikings and ghosts. Thats all you need flying land and nukes. Why not? the only use i could see for the jackal would be base defense maybe...

Where'd you hear that? How much damage does it do per rocket now?
The idea of a long-ranged Ground-to-Air attacker would be interesting. Kinda like a reverse Guardian. It'd have to have some distinguishing feature though, otherwise it would just be like a portable Missile Turret and would basically act as one when they're standing idly around your base.

Just watch the offical Zerg video, the Banshee are to the left firing at Ultralisks. No idea on their damage tho.
Indeed it will. I'll think of something...

I found nothing wrong with the Cobra except for the speed. I agree with Spacechick, I think the Cobra would be at home with the current Terran build.

It'd be a nice escort for a few Thors in my opinion.

You deserve a power-up for showing how blonde and ditzy I can be at times.

And that smiley you put in your post is mocking my stupidity.
