Strategic FOCUS MAPS?

I think it would be a somewhat cool idea to have a map focused on one type of race.
1 example would be a map with islands for the mobile buildings of the terran, so dropships are required for any other race than terran (main base separate from a middle battle ground with large resources)
2 example would be a map with each player on ther iwn area with lots of resources and a narrow land route, making it a prime protoss defense map, or even a narrow map were a frontal assault is needed, and easy to defend ( huge resource reserves for each team like a money map, the paths would be hard for zerg to get down and the terran may be used as siege weapons, but they must file into the narrow place and risk destruction)
3 example would be a map meant for zerg that would be many corners meating in a large open space where everyone would battle for their creep and units to take the center resources (Wide paths to the center stopping protoss defence and center close to main base so a terran base drop would be seen)

Give me your thoughts on race based maps, or even maps that force you to be a certain race ;D

Sounds good and probably has been done. I remember a map which has 3 corners and each different corner suits each race better than the other.

This is a good idea but I think Blizzard already did that without making it obvious. A lot of the default maps are designed to favour one race or the other if you consider the terrain and placement of mineral deposits. What would be interesting to see is some of the default maps categorised by what race they favour.

Hope that Blizzard will create intelligent missions for the campaign. i noticed that most of the missions were concluded by "destroy everything".

The missions in the expansion pack of the previous version (Broodwar) were more interesting in my opinion than the original missions. I don't mind having sometimes to clear the whole map in order to progress in the story, but starting every map by the single line "destroy the enemy base", well, it's pretty boring after a while, especially when all the time you start with 3 scv and 500 minerals and the AI with 3 bases and 354687 turrets...

I think the missions in SC2 will be more like those in WC3: "learn to master this unit" and "discover another point of the storyline".

In the Terran campaign (and possibly in the Zerg and Protoss campaigns too) you'll choose what units to master yourself. Completing missions will earn you money to unlock units and upgrades with.

Indeed. In the Terran campaign, after completing 1(while u were playing Raynor and his Raiders) finishes 1 mission each time,u will get money to buy/upgrade the terran units at the engineering bay in the Hyperion.I saw this stuff going around in 1 of the Youtube videos featuring the Terran campaign demo. The same must be going to Protoss and Zerg.Thought its gonna be hard to make all those backgrounds and characters makings and lots of stuffs to work to be done.

[EDIT=And yes, choose your units wisely and try mastering their uses of their weapons, agilities and abilities so u could counter the enemies.]

I don't really like that idea for multiplayer maps because it clearly gives one race an advantage over another race. I think maps should always be made to try to keep all sides as equal as possible, so that the player who plays better wins.

However, I wouldn't mind this if it was just on a goofy fun map and not on a map that would be used in any sort of competitive play.

Maps for different races is a good idea because you will use all your different units instead of just building "two types of units".
Like somebody said, the queen etc. wasn't used a lot in SC so changing the maps in SC2 will make different types of units more or less useful, forcing you to use every unit.

I always apprecieated the fact that you can find things in games which make the game more interesting. Like when you find stuff in a game you never thought of before. You get the feeling that you are "smart".

Special race maps will allow more creative thinking and use of terrain, which I think plays a big part in strategy games.

Soooo...you basically think it would be cool if some maps unbalanced the game in favor of a single race?

    Pass.

Dude, please do not post in threads that haven't had a reply in ages unless you have something really important to say.

The idea is to make the game interesting, not just massing units, turtling the base and throwing everything at the enemy like a lot of custom maps in sc, hell, money maps are just build, turtle, mass and kill, no strategy at all, I prefer when you can have chokepoints, important nodes, etc... like having to think globally, and know what step to give next, cutting enemy supply lines taking this stop, forcing them to waste resources on defending this canon as it´s a prime conection line between their main base and their two expansions and so.
