I know there are many many posts on this problem already yet there is no solution that works for me. I have a 9800GTX which I recently completely disassembled, dusted and reapplied thermal grease, I added an additional fan on my case, blowing directly on the card so I now have two fans blowing in, one out, I run my GPU fan at 100%, I use the variables.txt "fix", and have tried all different video settings in game. No matter what the video options are, the crashing seems fairly random. Last night I played several 3v3 games just fine, today I played some 1v1 and crashed on nearly all of them. I simply no longer know what to do. I have heard of using older drivers (mine are ALL up to date) and I think I even tried that once with no success. I run XP SP2, have 2gb ram, and have an Intel Core duo e7200 2.53ghz. I have used a temperature monitor and unless it reads incorrectly, I don't believe it is getting all that hot by normal standards. If I recall, the max temp I have read while playing SC2 is 48 degrees C. When it freezes, the screen becomes all squiggly and I can still hear game sounds, at least for a short while, though I am forced to reset as there is no way out of the problem. Sorry for creating another post on this very common problem, yet when I was placed in the Bronze league today due simply to crashes... Well, it was the last straw and I will not likely be playing again unless a solution is found. Thanks in advance for any advice. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 8/21/2010, 13:05:18 Machine name: ISAAC-95854E75D Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 258MB used, 3681MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS.0 DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ DirectX Files Tab: No problems found. A few things: First, you should get on Windows Update and install Windows XP SP3. SP2 is no longer supported by Microsoft. Then install any additional patches that you need for Windows XP. If you were to ask for Blizzard technical support, I am sure they would make you do the same before they even began troubleshooting the issue. Next install HWMonitor, then post a screenshot before and after gameplay (or even just starting the game up). Lastly, the newest driver for nVidia IS NOT installed on your system. The dxdiag is reported as 118.36 (which is about a year old). This is the newest driver for your system. It could be that not having the newest service pack installed is preventing it from being installed on your system! Post your full dxdiag after all of this is done, zip/rar it and attach it to this post.
Hello, I was stuck with the same issue but it was with a geforce 8800GT. However I managed to find a solution. - I added " -skipopenal -nocpubinding" at the end of the shortcut of Starcraft 2. - I removed Xfire detection (if you have it) for sc2 and Steam detection. - I play the game in "fullscreen mode" and I never (I insist on never) alt + tab when the game is on. I think that when you alt + tab the game may become unstable, not instantly but since I don't alt+tab I don't have any crash. Now I can play the game normally. CPUID Hardware Monitor is on when I play, my 3D card never goes above 60°C and my processor never goes above 81°C after 20 minutes of playing. Hope it could help you.
Not necessarily. The Tcase noted on Intel's spec sheets refer to the top side of the integrated heatspreader. Core temperatures are bound to be higher (approximately +20C according to Intel's tech docs). Most software report core temps and not case temps. Granted, given how cool these processors run, I'd be concerned about 80C temps. I've never had a temp that high on a Wolfdale even during California summer with just the stock CPU cooler and a crappy case. I think max I ever hit was around high 60's. @izwald 48C is pretty cool and the graphics going all wonky points to it being an issue with the GPU. Do you still have warranty on the GPU? If so, I suggest a few hours of stability testing with FurMark. If it fails, it's time to RMA.
i have a 250GTS and my temps reach low 60's but on ultra settings my CPU temps reach low 40's those cards about equivalent to a 250GTS those are not hot temps at all turn off or lower physics so your CPU isn't working so hard for some reason this game pushes my video card harder than does my CPU
Thanks for the replies, I never really thought of updating windows for whatever reason. I could have sworn I just dled the latest driver from nvidia the other day... maybe I just reinstalled my old one... I'll let yall know what I learn and if it works.
