As one of the sites on scene during Blizzard's press conference on the 19th, StarCraft2Forum.org had a representative in the form of Positron, one of our beta testers. He got to sit down and get some hands-on time with the single player campaign at Blizzard's Irvine campus. He also got some time with Dustin Browder and the development team. Here's what he found. Read the full article here! The new single player campaign is massive, dynamic, and just really fun. Nowhere in the new campaign did I detect any sort of grind or repetition of mission style (admittedly I only played 8 missions in the Terran campaign). The campaign glowed of polish and Blizzard quality from the first nostalgic mission using Jim Raynor to the epic plight of Zeratul. I provide here a fully detailed account of the status of the single player campaign as of April 19, 2010. Massive spoilers ahead! No co-op in campaign They are currently developing the ability to watch replays with friends (as a joinable game) and it is important on their priority list You will not be able to make custom achievements DOTA tools/triggers in development, a more robust hero system is going to be implemented No UI modding The reveal mechanic will be changed so that only the player who loses their last CC gets the initial message. 30 seconds later their buildings are revealed if no CC is built. If a new CC is built, the location of the built CC is not revealed. Blizzard recognizes the name.identifier system of naming is not working fully as intended For map testing it will be possible to publish maps privately before releasing them to bnet Choices made within the SC2 campaign relating to storyline will not be covered in later lore High level tournament players will eventually be able to compare themselves across all divisions Heroes are not used as often in the new campaign and are limited to ‘installation’ type maps in order to give them a better role in the campaign
kind of sad about how your choices within the storyline won't affect the lore... multiple routes to the same conclusion. Mass Effect 2 managed to take your saved game data from ME1... which is a really cool feature, to be honest.
Blizzard has abandoned the multiple lorelines concept since wc2. It's apparently easier to make 1 very cool timeline.
so the campaigne will not introduce new units like vikings? thor? battlecruiser? etc? someone tell me this is untrue.
I don't really mind. However, it does take away part of the illusion of making your own choices with missions. You know, since you'll end up with the same story eventually, regardless of what your choices were.
Frankly, branching storylines is not the forte of the RTS genre. Take for example DOW2, which promised to be a "player driven story". I would like to see some custom co-op campaigns with multiple endings --that would be sweet.
The new units will all be introduced in the campaign, the missions we got to test were only the beginning. Also, I too would like to see a more dynamic campaign in terms of storyline or even a mode that lets you conquer territories one by one like DoW dark crusade did. That game had EXTREME single player replayability.
