To those who think suppressing fire ins starcraft is useless, watch the finals of Stork vs. Bisu[SHIELD]. one dragoon sent Bisu's army away because it was blocking an entrance, creating a chokepoint defense. to a good microer, suppressing fire is the key to win battles. early in a game, if you block an entrance with a zealot or marine, or hydralisk, it can throw the enemy completely off, saving your ass. but, later on in the game, with the reapers colossus etc, this will be rendered almost useless, but still, you can still make it game early on into a match. but if you're one of those players, who just sends his guys to attack, and doesn't micro them, you don't have much say in this. get this skill locked down, you will be a far greater enemy. now, for your opinions.
Re: Suppressing fire Certain times its very bad to focus fire. Reavers are probably the best example of this. If you focus fire zerglings with dragoons im sure u will lose. Firing 6 shots at a zergling when it only takes 4 is a waste~~~
Re: Suppressing fire Suppressive fire is usually... shooting at the enemy so that they can't get up and shoot back properly. It is forcing them to avoid being shot above all else, basically. There really isn't an analog in StarCraft, or most other RTS games, for that matter.
Re: Suppressing fire There was a similar thread about adding morale and heavy attacks throwing units around a la DoW. And just like those it just isn't SC style. It doesn't fit and would only mess up something that isn't broken.
Re: Suppressing fire i am making an example. watch all 5 games of Stork vs. Bisu[SHIELD] and you'll see what i mean
Re: Suppressing fire yeah. You're misusing a term bro. Suppressing fire is when you lay down fire on an enemy to keep them from firing back at you. I dont think thats even possible in SC, short of a situation which may seem like suppressing fire but really is just retreating from a tougher enemy.
