My friend and I recently thought of a neat mechanic that could incorporate all the skill and thought factor of the game StarCraft II into a card form. I've seen other posts about it on team liquid and other forums but my question is, I would first have to contact bizzard Right? Because I am using their idea and units and so on... And also, would it be okay to just print a few copies to distribute and play amongst my friends?
As long as you do not sell them, i dont think there would be a problem making cards and rules for a game. However, should decide you want to make a main stream card game about this you better kiss blizzard's *** and have one hell of a business plan, otherwise you are doomed to fail.
Well, do you think they would steal the ideas and just make it themselves? I mean, They are a way bigger company, with more media coverage and money. Is there a way to ensure our idea isnt stolen?
That is a possibility, and unfortunately your case would not hold up in court since they already own the license to it, but if you are just making for you and some friends i doubt blizzard would get worked up about it.
