I would love to see that in a Starcraft game. But I guess it just wouldn't be the same as we are used to. Starcraft isn't built for hero units and item use. However, if someone finds out a way to balance this, it could become one of the most funny modes I've ever played in Starcraft. ;D

It's unlikely the popularity of DoTA has been missed by the fine folks at Blizzard, so it's pretty easy to imagine the map editor supporting a heroes like function. If there isn’t, a complicated work around the leveling function would be to simply have an “upgrade†button on a building created after a hero is chosen to research those heroes’ abilities. Vespene gas could probably be used to buy the abilities, with the gas being rewarded according to score. After an ability is researched, a previously grayed out ability would be available to buy.

I don’t know much about the editor, and as such there may be easier ways to do the same functions, but DoTA will be around one way or the other.

DotA (Defense of the Ancients) is a very popular customized game for Warcraft III:
The Frozen Throne. There are two teams of five players and each player selects one of over
seventy heroes which they will use to try to destroy their opponent’s base, while protecting
their own. As players accumulate money, they can use it to buy a large variety of items to
enhance the strengths of their hero and provide additional abilities.

I made a DotA map on Starcraft Broodwar and it's perfect when it comes to triggering, the creeps' movements are very much like DotA in WC3 although of course I find it hard to balance the game. The hard part of it is on the hero part because not only that most units don't have any skills, there are only few heroes to choose from and choosing heroes is hard because I can't use buildings to serve as taverns.

Too bad. I hope in StarCraft2 that will change and we would be able to make DotA maps.

I've had the idea for a SC DOTA for a while, I'd like to see your map too. No point in doing my own from scratch when there is a working one already out there...

Edit 1: I'm bored so I'm gonna try to make my own map anyway...

Edit 2: I'm still relearning how to do maps but here is my first try at an Age of Strife level: http://www.geocities.com/vinterlajvet/SC/6-DotC-v1.scm

Edit 3: A terran Age of Strife typ of map called The Field of Battle will be out in the beginning of next week hopefully...
Then I'll try to make a real DOTA map (for now called Universe at War) with all the races and most of the heroes.

Hopefully there is no DotA. I hate that game so much... People take it more seriously then actual standard matches. It's not even balanced and doesn't require much ability whatsoever lol.. It takes 30 minutes just to get a game going because of all the stupid bots and ping checks and country checks and safelisting and banlisting and all that nonsense. Its gone way too far for a stupid custom game.

I'd like a SC2 DotA. It takes forever to start, but it's still great fun. Anyways, Blizzard already said that it would be possible to make a leveling system in the new editor and item creation might be possible too. Some one's bound to make one, so might as well try it. And if you don't like it you could just play the normal SC2 matches. It's not going to be like in WC3 when you could barely find a real game that's not on a custom map. SC2's going to be such a competitive multiplayer that there'll always be enough people to play real games with.

well if that is the case, i think it would be really kool to have DotA in SC, even though i just bought warcraft 3 days ago, and have been trying to learn ever since... any ideas for units? only unit i could think of that is already hero like is ghost, as it has snipe cloak and drop pod (like a summon ability) What about some items?

I would love to have a SC2 DOTA.
I played DOTA so much with my friends just half a year ago. I quit da game eventually but most of my friends are still playing DOTA. I might be going back soon. :)

It's funny that alot of my friends buy WC3 just to play DOTA. They just can't get the hang out of a RTS game. It's very sad but it shows you how successful DOTA really is. If SC2 has DOTA, it will attract alot of gamers. With the new engine + map making resources that we can utilize, I'm sure that DOTA in SC2 will surpass WC3's DOTA.

I'd find it fun if it wasn't so fucking ridiculous. The map itself is a load of fun and I rock shit at it. But you have people fucking banning you for dling, people banning you for having to leave midgame, banning you for not buying the right item at the right time. They take it too seriously, like it's a fucking CAL level game like CS, DoD, AA or others. When in fact it's just an AoS style map that happens to be pretty fun.

    No way! DotA sux...

If to be serious, it's impossible to make playable DotA as it is on wc3, bcos there's no heroes in sc2(what is wonderful).
