StarCraft II delayed until 2010?

So, so, so... is this speculation or an educated guess? Dustin stated that Beta testing would last between 4 and 6 months: the only way that SCII will make a 2009 release at this point is if the Beta goes swimmingly (and how likely is that?).

However, for it to go swimmingly, the Beta will actually have to start --at the very latest in mid-August. This prediction of a delay until Q1 2010 seems justified to me.

Thoughts?

 

It would be good if they made it till X-mas, but I guess they might release it in Q1 too.

If they intended to make us all endure the long long coming months of this game. We will most honerably wait for it......I hope. The beta as you said depending on how the ride goes. Month 8 Beta 4 months. Probably out by 2010 early year. Or who knows. Blizzard could announce the beta tomorrow. Anyway this far in the game we still cant predict the numerous actions blizzard does. Subsequently I will always visit the forums, waiting for this game.....Except the next 3 days in which case I am banned *surpise* *surpise*. Good bai.

 

We are now halfway through summer '09, which is what Blizzard has said their target Beta start date is. As long as the Beta is released before September 21st (official end of summer), Blizzard will probably be able to hit their targeted Christmas-time game release.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the game was delayed until 2010. Blizzard is known for not releasing a game "until it is ready," and Starcraft II is a game that, while I really really really do want to play it NOW, I would not mind a little delay if it meant a significant quality increase.

 

I don't see blizzard getting to beta any time soon. Maybe in a couple of months. Their reason for delayed beta is 'balancing'. I don't see it coming out in 2009, maybe mid 2010 if we are lucky. But probably next Christmas in 2010. By then is for sure. Unless they really have keep 'balancing'. Then 2011. Naaa let's knock it to 2012. lol. I mean 2013, then we will never get it.

They contacted Blizzard and the rumor got pretty much pwnd IMO. Of course it could still happen, but Blizzard are still aiming for Q4 this year.

 

you guys have to remember that "activision blizzard" is not "blizzard."

activision has pretty much NO authority over blizzard and its development process/cycle. if they say they're delaying a game, it probably means guitar hero or call of duty or something.

 

Mid-August is right around the same time as Blizzcon. Coincidence?

 

im hopefull and confidedant in Blizzard to release beta and the game within the year. If not it better be dam early in 2010!

Good find. However, every time that Blizzard speak of targets it makes me despair: it's like asking someone to hit something 200 metres away... with a shotgun.

 

You never really know with Blizzard. I think I read somewhere they wanted a 4-6 month beta period to do proper testing so I guess they have to start the beta soon if you are planning to release in Q4. Then again if the beta shows a lot of bugs it is unlikely for Blizzard to release this year as they like to take their time making sure their games work properly before releasing them.

I'm hoping for a late November launch so the game is out for Christmas sales but being realistic I don't think Blizzard gets it out in time.

I am thinking SC2 will not be released by end of year. August 21 will be the day because If beta is not released by BC2009 then there is no way the game will be released 2009. Imo

 

As long as Starcraft 2 does not become a Duke Nukem Forever I'm ok with it all.

This will be the best RTS Game for a Decade once it comes out. Now, who wouldn't want to get their hands on SC2 this Xmas holidays? IMO its the perfect time to distribute it in public. But then again, no one will be surprised once they say that it won't come out this year. That's blizzard and that's how cold and cool they are lol.

 

the only thing i agree with is the fact that Sc2's release need not worry when, itll sell crazy even if it comes out in the most random date.

 

I think they are waiting the Blizzcon to start the SC2 beta. People at the Blizzcon will probably get a beta key for the game.

But I also think that the game don't need a (long) beta period. They already tested it in team, battle reports show us a lot of things of the game and people could test it during a wow contest where people could use each unit or skill. Do you really think that the beta needs to be long after that?
Two months should be enough.
