    As far as I know:

    - Starcraft II will consist of three seperate campaigns, one for each playable race: Terran, Zerg & Protoss.

    - Each of these campaigns will have a different feel to them:
    • Terran: The buying and upgrading of units before each mission
    • Zerg: RPG elements
    • Protoss: Diplomacy

Since we know quite something about the Terran campaign mechanics I would like to discuss the Zerg and Protoss campaigns.

    - How could RPG elements fit into SCII? You can't give the Queen any RPG mechanics because she's only used defensively. Will Kerrigan be the unit to level? Or...? And if so, how do you see this in effect? (speculate!)

    - How will Diplomacy mechanics fit into SCII? I would like to see some sort of general 'Risk in space'. i.e. You get to play missions but your actions in them define your relationships with other factions. After playing some missions you'll have allies (or own) some planets, planets which you can lose after some time by competing factions etc. Also, you would need to pay attention to resource and unit allocation on each planet. Again, please speculate!

Looking forward to see what you guys think!

  2. The Zerg campaign is focued on evolution. You'll be doing certain things to evolve; not necessarily level-up. My guess is that it'll be pretty similar to the Terran campaign in that you'll do missions or other things to evolve upgrades, the ability to use certain units in the missions, and such.

The Protoss campaign has been explained pretty well and it's a bit like a BioWare RPG in that you will have to chose a side and do a mission for that faction. Your relationship with the other opposing side will suffers making it so you have to probably play more missions against that faction. By mixing up your factions you get different missions which lends itself very well to replayability.

Infested Kerrigan will be the unit to level. Presumably she will gain levels (although they might not be called that) as she wins missions. She would gain personal power, new abilities (possibly a choice in which abilities) and access to new zerg strains.

Kerrigan is the wild card; we don't know what she wants, although presumably she's scared of the xel'naga.

That's basically what we've been told. More specifically, the diplomacy elements revolve around personalities and politics. Making nice with this faction gives you stalkers, making nice with that faction gives you purifiers instead. (As an example.) In addition, making nice with one faction could alienate another one, and making nice with one faction might even prohibit you from playing a mission (so you'd want to play Legacy of the Void more than once). I don't know what roles planets would play in this, and I don't think you'd need to worry about unit and resource allocation in the story mode space.

Zeratul is the main character of Legacy of the Void (not Artanis; confirmed as of BlizzCon 2008) and he's been gone 4 years. I think many protoss will mistrust him.

  8. I'm not quite sure I know what you're talking about but if you're asking for where Blizzard announced the separate emphasis of each campaign then I'll just point you to the trilogy announcement video from BlizzCon 08.
