Hey, guys. I'm a (very) long time StarCraft player, but StarCraft II feels like a completely different game. First, I feel as if it's easier—beginning with 6 workers, and two vespene geysers that cost only 25 minerals. I also feel as if it's a lot faster. Blah, blah, blah, I can ***** on and on, but that's just because, for StarCraft, I'm an old man at heart who wanted the same game w/ different graphics. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has any general guidelines that should be followed for SCII. Currently I'm just playing against AI's, and newbing it up pretty hardcore. Also, do most people play on Fastest game speed, or is that too fast?
Yes, Blizzard stated that they wanted the gameplay to be faster, which the 6 workers come in. For your questions, I don't really know any general guidelines, besides the basics. Such as scouting, countering and expanding. Also, fastest is the normal game speed at which quick match games are played. If you want some help understanding the game some more, I would gladly play some games with you. I'm not a hardcore pro that knows everything in this game. But I can definitely help you starting out.
Alright. Thanks for the response—I've just beaten my first Medium AI (which, apparently, is akin to a bronze level player). I'll keep the battle-invite in mind, though, there are circumstances which don't allow me to play w/ other people, just AI.
most people play on faster speed =D - that is the ladder standard. I suggest watching some commentaries and stuff to improve. The most most most important part of starcraft 2 is to mine minerals. Without mastering this technique, it can be difficult to do anything else.
the game pace is faster but the gameplay isn't easier in my opinion, i think its just different. It's more macro oriented, 60% macro, 40% micro. SC1 was more 60 micro 40 macro. Then again, you might be right, I wasn't really good at SC1 but at SC2, im diamond league in everything. It could also be because I practiced more and watched a lot of replays.
