My English class teacher is letting us write an argumentative paper on anything we want. Naturally, I decided to write about why StarCraft is the best RTS game of all time. I've already thought of including the points of great balance between 3 distinct races, incredible replay value, extremely fun, deep story line, longevity, plenty of awards won, professional competitions, and world wide popularity. Let me know if I've forgotten anything, and if you've got any tips on writing essays using the Classical Rhetoric style of stating an argument. I'll be sure to post it as an attachment to this thread it once it's done for those of you who are interested.
Looks like you got all the major points of what made starcraft so good. When your writing about the competitions, maybe you could talk about some of the major players like savior, yellow, jaedong, etc.
I'm a junior in high school. He's heard of it, but has never played it, but he says he's going to keep an open mind about any topic we choose. As long as we make a convincing argument and follow the Classical Rhetoric structure, we'll get a good grade.
Make sure you compare it against other RTS's. I find it always helps if you have a point where the 'other' one beats it on. Makes it so you or the cause you champion isn't such an elitist jack-off
To the OP: For me I'd add in all of what you said. Plus I'd also add in how the game helped Blizzard as a company. Of how much revenue it made for them. And how it put blizzard on the gaming map well more then it's previous games. Basically how this kind of game was a sound business move. Also a little discussion about the gaming movement as a whole might help. Explaining how it was at the time. How many people and of what ages played games and how this one would open games up to a much wider audience. Also adding in how in places in Asia people actually have starcraft coaches and the best can make a decent living of wining tournaments. If you could find the share prices of Blizzard around the time the game was released. That'd really help your argument. That's assuming they are on the stock exchange. I never looked. Just try to avoid the It's the best game cause I love it feel. If you can spend a little time only of the game play and more on the success/awards/money it made for blizzard and it's impact on the world and gaming. That's be my best bet.
Half naked korean girls wearing Blizzard and StarCraft " clothes " ? LOL just kidding. But seriously though, don't forget to mention World Cyber Games. Unless you haven't already done that, obviously. Edit: Oh wait, this is an old topic. Sorry for necro posting.
