Starcraft digital DL and the region you play in, HELP!

So I am Canadian and right now I live in Australia.... I want to buy a digital copy of Starcraft 2, and I made my battlenet account with my Canadian address.... lots to swallow there, so just take a moment....

Okay, when I go to buy it on Blizzard's site, it says that I will be playing in the North American region since that is what my account is set as (but remember, I temporarily live in Australia... until December)... on the right hand side of the screen it says something to the effect of 'all SC2 copies sold in AUS or NZ will be playing in the Southeast Asia region'.... now, as if having to get my *** kicked by the Korean prodigies wasn't enough, all of this information is counter to itself...

If I keep my settings set to NA, will it auto-put me in the AUS region anyway? And if it DOESN'T do that, will playing in the NA region produce a lot of lag for me? Second, if I register it to the AUS/Southeast Asia region, will I later be able to change the region I am playing in, perhaps IN the game (as Warcraft 3 let you, if I remember correctly)???

    Thanks in advance!

Right now there is no option that allows you to change the region you're playing in. Thats for the bad news....

I don't know exactly about the digital downloads, but if you order an american retail version (via amzon.com for example) you would get an american Game-Key that allows you to play on the american servers. Other way, if you'd buy the game via amazon.co.uk you'd get a european CD-Key allowing you to play on the european servers.

What i found (by an advertisment - haven't tried it out) was a internet-seller who offers CD-Keys for both European and American servers. Link is here (no advertisment, don't know about that shop). You can choose to buy a US-Key or a EU-Key there. I'd strongly recommend you to buy a US-Key since otherwise you wouldn't be able to play your friends online.

About lags: Usually, you should try to play the game on your region servers. But as you already know, there isn't to much traffic which would delay your playing. If you're able to play a WC3 game online from Austria on the US-Servers without any problems, there wouldn't be any problems playing SC2 the same way. Since you'll return "home" in December, take a US-Key, live with maybe a few lags for the next 3 months and then enjoy the game perfectly smooth.

As said: There ain't no way to change the region you're playing (yet). It all depends on the Key you purchased!

You know what... despite the fact that there isn't REALLY a clear answer to this scenario, your logic is profoundly sound... getting a US/North American key straight away, then dealing with probably SMALL amounts of lag for the next 3 or 4 months before returning home and enjoying it in its full capacity is definitely the best scenario.

Cheers for the opinion, and for the second perspective - always helps, and certainly presents an idea I just hadn't thought of... good on ya, mate - thanks!

If you order the North American/US region download, you will receive links to the enUS client and will get a enUS CD-Key. You will only be able to play in the North American region then. If you are ordering using your Canadian address, etc, there is no reason why you shouldn't get that client, unless you are logged into eu or asia battle.net.

You are correct in not purchasing it in Ausland. You would be stuck in that region of play then.

On my account, I have retail enUS and a trail for enGB. When I added enGB, I had to use a trail key from someone in Europe.

If you wanted too, get someone to pick you up a legit copy in Canada, then send you the product key to activate. :/ If you wanted to be sure that is...

So I ordered a US copy online and got a US key... I lag like a MOFO online and just did a little googling and found out that if I HAD ordered an AUS one, that I would be able to play in the NA region anyway because apparently they unlocked the US region for AUS players because of the English language barrier they'd face here playing with mostly Asian players.... DAMNIT.

Oh well, 3 months of lag until I'm home... buhhhhhh

And is it just me, or are the Blizz servers really crap right now?
