Hello so I came back to play some starcraft to get pumped up for sc2. I have diablo 2 and wc3 which were both patched awhile ago to not require the cd to be inside the drive for it to load anymore. But I have patched starcraft broodwars to the latest version and it is still asking for the cd to be inserted into the drive? Now I am wondering how can I fix this because I thought that the latest patch made it so there is no cd needed in the drive anymore? Also I tried to access the battlenet forums to post this but even after I have logged in there no topics/threads are listed not sure why that is. Also I have followed these steps - Windows Users: - Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked under Explorer Folder Options. - If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq". - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq"
What patch number is it? 1.15.2 is the no CD patch incase you have an older patch. It looks like you did everything right so i am not sure what your problem is.
I have the 1.15.3 patch which is the newest one and it has all previous ones in it and I still get message for cd also.? But it was also there to copy and rename the install file from the cd and paste in scbw file, you might need to do that, I would if i had my cd......
- patch 1.16.0 But it was also there to copy and rename the install file from the cd and paste in scbw file I have already tries this it still asks for the cd
Okay! What Operating System are you two running? Windows Vista or XP or... 7? If you are running Vista, right click on your StarCraft icon (shortcut) and hit "Open File Location" You should see something like Brooddat.mpq and a bunch of other files you probably did not see before. Paste your BroodWar.mpq into that folder. Also please be sure to re-read your instructions: I am saying this because some people, even after saying they did everything to the word, simply forget to UNCHECK the option.
wait i read that too fast, I understand what your saying and that would probably work....but....my cd is MIA I need the install.exe file (Broodwar.mpq)
When you right click the shortcut and click on the "Open File Location" it should pop a new window open with the folder. Insert your BroodWar.mpq file into that folder. MIA? NOES!
I followed all the steps and I have windows xp. I also did tools>folder options>view then I unchecked hide extensions for known file types
How can I get the Broodwar.mpq file? I dont have the cd to copy and rename the install.exe file....my cd is not around, lost over years of laying around lol.
I think if you go to the blizzardstore website they will let you download that file maybe not sure if its that file but you need the cdkey.
went to blizzard and registered my key and wah-lah downloading as i type. Tx for all the help and info. Anyone wanna trade names and play together? H2H? Teams?
ntherblast is right. Use that one, but you NEED the 26-digit CD-Key. BTW, for the record, if you want, there IS an iCCup StarCraft which does not require a CD-Key. You can always find the CD-Key Changer (also on their website) and the Anti-Hack Launcher for iCCup, and there is also a Patch changer for mods, iCCup (needs 1.15.3), etc. Play me on US East or iCCup (The Abyss). Into.the.Storm
Into.the.storm is your name on there right? Even with DSL and a good speed this download ( the whole battlechest collection) is taking its sweet time, lol. But when its done you can expect to hear from me. When is the most popular playing times? Im in central time.....
4-9 PM (eastern time GMT +500) on Eastern is pretty popular Sunday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, you can still find great games up 'til eleven. Usually when from people come from work/school to average bedtimes. I probably won't be on anytime soon. DotA is fun, for now. Just need to get the official version of WC III, not some cheap version of my friend.
ok guys i need help im running Windows 2000 i dowloaded Starcraft+Broodwar+cd-key+update installed it and of course it asked for a cd so i did everything as stated above copied both install.exe file pasted them into my starcraft folder UNchecked the Hide all know extension file option renamed them to StarCraft.mpq and BroodWar.mpq and it still asking for a cd so help plz
i think i know what you're trying to do first, update to patch 1.16.0 then, you need to rename BroodWars.mpq.EXE to just BroodWars.mpq, not install.exe, and put that file in the Starcraft folder you only want ONE .mpq at a time, not both. i had the same issue until i deleted one. you'll need to re-copy depending on which one you want to play
