Starcraft AI?

So I was playing some SC the other day when I realized that there is only one difficulty level for the AI!
Do I have the wrong patch? Are there any official AI's made by Blizzard for SC?
I know good games should be enjoyed online/with friends, but when you're a noob and really tired you don't care.

    somewhere....not sure
there is no special setting for AI difficulty

the only way you could play against a much more harder AI is if you make map with a hard comp AI scripts

Why wouldn't Blizzard put any in any of their patches?!
    Cannot compute!

Um... the campaing's pretty easy, but when you'r playing custom maps, not that much..
Maybe try playing against 2-3 comps at the same time? :)

Train vs. 1 computer until you pwn it so hard you have to move onto 2. Not much else to do... Most people play on Bnet.

Yeah, but there ARE 5 AI difficulties. Four are custom scenario ONLY.

Go open a normal map, make one AI and set it to any race, and make the other areas optional, and make a location where the AI Nexus/Hatchery/CC is, and use the trigger:

    Players:
    The computer.

    Conditions:
    Always.

    Actions:
    Run AI Script at Location.
Set the "AI Script" to the computer's race, and the difficulty level you want. However, if you start from scratch, the Easy, Medium and Hard difficulties are VERY useless.

The campaigne is always the same difficulty, but on custom games, they seem to start with a random AI level.

Eh, they are all very easy, its just what it chooses to do i think. Maybe there are more, but those are currently inaccessible without modding.

When in normal free for all and melee maps the COMP AI randomly assigns an AI script to the teams it uses i.e for instance "Easy" "Normal" "hard" and "Schooling" <<<<:(

As for the campaign it has a SET AI. But unless the pc picks "schooling" you're in for a pretty boring game.
The difference between schooling and easy is that you can easily dispatch an easy comp AI with tier 1-1.5 units like dragoons and zealots, hyrdas, lings, mutalisks and lurkers and siege tanks, firebats, marines and medics.

The schooling A.I is that if you 'ling rush the comp A.I... it would hold a grudge against you for the rest of the game. It would build a lot of lorecasters, it would drop you a lot and it will PWN all your resources camps. It would also use the surrounding terrain to mold a suitable base defense (not a random collection of cannons). It would RUSH the tanks for each race and uproot your main base before you can get your comand center to lift off. (It also likes nuclear activity a lot) :(

It's actually called insane, but the description is if you pick it, it will "school you in the art of playing Starcraft"

Insane is fun to play against, it's actually a challenge.

So, if there ARE different levels why just not put them in the game?

They do, different missions have different set AI levels.

Different AI levels can only build up to a certain tech point. An easy terran will only build to about a factory, a medium will go to ghosts or so, but won't used nukes, hard will use everything, and insane is just a much better version of hard.

There seems to be a great gap between hard and insane though.

Well, you can't choose a difficulty if you want a simple game of SC.
That's all I want lol.. Blizzard didn't make any difficulty levels for WC3 either if you wanted to play a custom game. But thank god that they released a patch later on.

And well, insane is insane after all. So don't complain! xD

I'm not complaining about the difficulty of insane, I just want a fifth one between hard and insane.

    Heh insane is so fun.
But i think that you should be able to choose which CPU level you want,
    Like in age of empires.
There should be a aggresive comp, defence comp and a all-rounder which you can also set that difficulty
    (hard aggresive or easy defencive).
Although Blizzard is preoccupied with SC2, i think that they would add the CPU level you want to choose.
if not, make it random :D

That makes it too easy, no scouting is needed at all.

I agree you should be able to choose difficulty levels in custom games.

    Nice find bajadulce.

BTW, the "custom" AI script is only for Melee. They will build normally, but only with standard starts.

The Easy, Medium and Hard AIs can only work well with large, expansive bases. They will NOT expo, and attack rarely.

The Insane AI is a different story. It can start on any start, and will attack frequently and with massive armies. Get prepared for a difficult fight.
