    Hi guys :)
Just got the game..... And it won't install.....
Now, you would probably say that i should look in other threads, but my problem isn't like any other i've read about.....

I flip the disk into my dvd-drive, it starts to hum and make noises, and then nothing happens.... The auto-install won't start and if i go to "my computer" i can't se that my comp is recognizing that there's a disc in the drive......

I seriously hope to get an answer from you guys.... Thanks in advance ;)

    My DxDiag file...

Sounds to me like a drive problem. Try installing something else or ripping a CD or something like that.

Please post the entire DXDiag file, ziped/rared and attach it to a post. This will give me a lot more information.
It's been pretty common that the disc can't be read by some machines... but we'll try to diagnose that.

First off, download GMER and run it, see if you have a rootkit of some kind installed. What kind of virus protection are you using? I'll wait for the full dxdiag before looking into your DVD drive.

Also, are you using any kind of DVD rom drive emulators, like Daemon Tools or OTHER (cause all others SUCK.. wait, sorry about that, moving on...)?

StarCraft 2's DVD is dual layer (that's how it can be 8GBs of data), so some people who's drives have broken down or have "software" issues like rootkits may not work correctly.

I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials :) But i just formatted my computer like 1 hour ago and it still won't work :S I was under the impression, that when you format your computer, the viral infections didn't "transfer" over to the new OS install?

If its a high level rootkit, it might still carry over. A rootkit at the highest level was recently concepted and worked successfully (which would be at the bootloader level, only way it could go higher is the BIOS). Anyways.. about that dxdiag.... XD

To attach a file to a post, click "Go advanced" and and then attach the file my selecting "Manage Attachments" near the bottom.

I found some information on your DVD drive, seems you aren't the first one to have this kind of issue. Open of Device manager (Windows_Logo_key+break/pause buttons), select device manager.. is there a yellow exclamation next to your DVD drive?

Even if you don't, a firmware update might work better. The one linked in that thread is for a Dell based machine, so I will find one for your Acer... the update may allow you to use the disc.

You need to update some other drivers too for when you actually get the game installed, but we'll worry about that later... I'm going to go look for the Acer version of the firmware.

*edit* I just checked MY DVD rom... its in this same series of devices... and i have a Toshiba.. must be pretty common.

Here is another idea, did you install Windows 7 by itself, or did you upgrade from Vista? Seems this drive has some issues when upgrading. I found this information on going form XP to Vista, but I don't know if this exact fix would work on Windows 7, so I am searching for the Windows 7 ver of the issue. I'm rather surprised you didn't install Windows 7 64-bit (unless the laptop came with 32-bit).

*Edit* Forgot link, woops~~ Go ahead and try it on Windows 7. You can use the auto fix file or try doing it manually. I've used this same method under Windows XP to get my DVD drives working properly again.

Meantime, I will look for drivers. I am assuming that you upgraded from Windows Vista based on the date of this nVidia video driver (2008). Not a good idea, that is most certainly the cause of this issue. I would install Windows 7 clean, use the 64-bit installation disc, and just wipe out Vista's previous install (meaning zero recovery), then manually track down all the drivers (which I am about to do now anyway).

All driver links will have Danish files:

    Newest nVidia drivers (32-bit)

Realtek audio drivers (all OSes). You are currently using a generic driver, so this driver is a must!

    Intel Driver Update Utility

Yeah, try that Microsoft link I posted above. Please tell me if you upgraded from Vista before installing Windows 7 too, because that may very have been the cause of this issue. I'd still reinstall from scratch, installing Windows 7 64-bit and deleting Windows Vista's partition completely.

No, did you try that fix from Microsoft? The one found here. I forgot the link in the original post, had to edit it in. -_- I can't help but feel that might be it. If it doesn't work after that.. I dunno. I've already had the DVD drive in this laptop replaced once after it failed, and its the same hardware series.

What's the easiest to do? The "Fix it for me" og the DIY method?

Fix it for me, but i don' know if the EXE will work right on Windows 7.. if it refuses to run, then DIY instead.

I was waiting for you to tell me if the Windows 7 method worked.. I keep asking and you keep ignoring the question :p

And no, I Acer doesn't seem to have a firmware update, download the Dell one and see if it will install for you. Its quiet possible the DVD drive is shot.. but the only way to know for sure would be to find another Dual Layer disc... like maybe.. a DVD movie like "Gladiator"... and see if that works okay in the machine.

I'll try the Dell update and the DIY method later and let you know ;) And the gladiator thing ;)
