starcraft 2 videocard error

I have a problem running starcraft 2. I get an error message stating

The videocard is not accessible because no display drivers are installed, another 3D application
has exclusive access or the machine was locked. Please close any 3D applications or games and try starting StarCraft II again. If the problem persists, for more information consult our support website at <a href="http://stacraft2.com/support.</i>" target="_blank">http://stacraft2.com/support.

the website was useless, I'm worried my videocard isn't up to the task as its the oldest part of my PC.

    System
    Vista premium
    Core 2 quad cpu 2.66GHz (4 cpus)
    4 gigs of DDR2 Ram
    Asus P5Q-EM mother board
Radeon X1800 series video card running dual monitors

I updated the drivers to the latest available from ATI, do I just need a new videocard? or is there something I can do with the videocard I have.

    Thanks for the help.

First off, are you running Vista 32 or 64? 64 would be recommend for your setup. If you are unsure, you can check it after the first step below.

People reporting this issue seem to have a built-in video card that has not been disabled. To check if that's the case:

-Click the start button and float your cursor over computer (or My Computer), right click and select properties.

    -Select Device Manager

-Hit the + next to Display Adapters and see if there is something non-ATI listed in the list. If there is something with an exclamation point (like a built in video card that doesn't have drivers), then your on-board is still enabled.

This motherboard should disable it automatically if you put a videocard in the 16X PCIe slot, but it would appear that you wouldn't be the only one to have this issue.

In that thread linked above, they suggest you go into the BIOS and set the option " Initiate Graphic Adapter" to "PEG" (PCI-Express-Graphics).

thanks for the help, I do have a 64 bit OS. No other drivers under display adapters, but I clicked the update drivers button, and that seemed to fix the problem. Thanks a ton for giving me some tips that led to a solution. You rock TheXev.

First off, you have a nVidia GeForce 8600m GT (meaning your on a laptop). Make damn sure you are using notebook drivers. If the drivers don't install, then you may have to try the laptopvideo2go 3rd party driver add-on.

You may also want to check to see what driver your video card is currently using. To do that, open your system settings by right clicking on 'My Computer' (Computer in Win7), and selecting properties. Click "device manager" on the right. Hit the +/triangle next to "Display adapters". Right click on your GeForce and select properties, then click on the drivers tab. List all of the following information: Driver Provider, Driver Date, Driver Version. Some have reported that clicking on the "update driver" button has helped them install the newest driver (and it very well may).

Also, read this post for information on posting your system specs. We're not psychic, so we can't magically assume what hardware/software you maybe running. The more we know, the more we can help!

    HELP "no display drivers detected"

    AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 3.10 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    Windows 7 64-bit
GIGABYTE MA78LM-S2H c/w ATI 3000 integrated graphics card

I get the error message "no display drivers detected"

I have an integrated graphics card. The drivers are updated to the latest version. Double checked by going into Device Manager and updating but they are already up to date.

    Suggestions?

So, you have a ATI Integrated and you are using that for StarCraft II? Or you installed another video card and still have the onboard installed?

If you are trying to use the onboard to play StarCraft 2, you should install the newest drivers here.

If you installed another video card, you need to enter your BIOS and disable the onboard, plus make sure your primary video card is set to "PCIE."

Zoom, read my FAQ and install your video drivers. If you have a built in video card in addition to your GeForce 210, you must enter the BIOS and disable the onboard video card.

If neither of these solutions work, please provide additional information in this thread, as shown in my FAQ.

    More Solutions?

    Hi,

I am running into the same error message that everyone else in this thread, but none of the solutions seem to work. I've included the relevant info about my computer below and as attachments but if I have managed to forget something please let me know.

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G

    Dsiplay Driver Info:
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 6/21/2006
    Driver Version: 6.1.7600.16385
Driver is best detected to be installed by windows

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Looks like a fresh Windows install. Make sure you have proper virus protection installed and no viruses before proceeding. If you have none, install Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, and its good.

If you have viruses at this point, reinstall and make sure MSE installed from the get go.

Now on to drivers.. you have no drivers installed, period.

    Chipset drivers here.

    Realtek Audio drivers here.

    Newest video drivers.

After you install all of this, you should be in much better shape for playing the game!

I'm sorry for being dense here but do you mean that I need to completely re-install windows?

Also, how is it possible that I don't have any drivers? I just got through updating my drivers through Dell.

    Thanks for your help!

I checked the dxdiag, you don't have any drivers installed.. seriously. I am saying, ONLY reinstall IF you have a virus. No point installing these drivers if your system already has a virus.

Also, did you finish installing the drivers before running the dxdiag, or after? The dxdiag is pretty much just a list of the installed drivers. Also, if you want to post a new dxdiag just to have me check it again, please zip it first. Instructions on how to zip here.
