Well, I looked at the system requirements for starcraft 2, and I was delighted that my computer exeeded the requirments by far. So, I expected to have no problems with graphics. I was wrong. To my dissapointment, starcraft 2 automatically put me on `low` graphic settings. Here are my specs: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. AMD Athlon ll X2 240 dual core processor 4GB DDR2 9200 Integrated NVIDIA Geforce. Shouldn't I be able to play on higher settings? Or am i a complete noob and should die in a hole. If these are really crappy video cards or w/e, could you please tell me how to improve?
The integrated graphics chip is what really hinders you. SC2 does not run well without a fairly powerful GPU. Just stick with low graphics, it really isn't that big of a deal. Now go die in a hole.
sounds about right. the graphics card is almost always what limits the graphics settings. a 9200 integrated chip is... well, pretty much bottom of the barrel.
I played SC2 on my dad's computer when I visited my parents last week: AMD Athlon 64 (2.2 GHz), 1 GB RAM, Geforce 7600GS. The game worked perfectly on lowest graphic settings.Note that you do not have gameplay disadvantages when using lowest graphice settings.
good? no. $100 will probably get you up to medium-high, $150 can probably get you ultra. but under the $100 mark is usually just specialized, ultra-low-power cards made more for home theater PCs and stuff. not good for gaming at all.
Don't worry a lot of pros play on lowest and medium settings because it's easier to discern many objects while playing. However if you want to play single player I'd recommend getting a better computer/or upgrading. I don't mind playing multi on lowest, that's what I've been doing the entire beta, but when the game comes out, I plan on getting a computer that can run it on at least high settings to see the single player in all its glory. Especially the cinematics!
Sigh, I really don't want to spend 100 dollars on a video card cause the computer I'm using right now is like a month old. (for my birthday). Do you guys think that I should spend 100 dollars JUST for sc2? Keep in mind that I've been looking forward to this game for a year now. Thx for the help so far.
that's really up to you. if you play any other computer games you'll obviously see improvement there, too. or just deal with low graphics for a while and save up some money for a few months.
So the only advantage of buying a graphics card is computer games? Would it help, let's say, the clarity of the screen or something?
Well, your movies would be sharper and more colourful, too. And if you have an HD monitor and an HD capable Videocard, you could watch HD movies.
better cards can also help with video decoding, but it also depends on which program you're using to play video files. but that doesn't actually take much processing power, and lower-end video cards (like the sub-$100 ones) can do that pretty easily as well. that's pretty much the only reason the super-cheap video cards exist... only good for home theaters and really low-end gaming. but yeah, mid-to-high-end video cards are just for gaming... which is why big-box manufacturers always cheap out on video cards in premade systems unless they're advertising it as a "gaming" system. and sometimes they still cheap out even then.
................. i paid 79.99 for my GTS250 and Im running it on high with at 1080p 24" monitor with 58+fps. if i use my 19" acer, at 720p im getting over 80fps on ultra......................................
Yeah Ryan I'm not sure I agree with you there. Best bang for your buck would be this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5238&cm_re=radeon_4850-_-14-125-238-_-Product That's a Radeon 4850 ($100), pretty sure it would run your game on Ultra with no problems. If you're on an extremely tight budget, this is probably the best you'll do: Radeon 4670 ($60) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1114&cm_re=radeon_4670-_-14-141-114-_-Product That would probably get you medium-high settings. SC2 does not need a beast of a card to run at all. The 4850 is still a pretty powerful card (will play games like MW2 on high settings) so it would definitely get you to Ultra. The 4670 is a low-budget affair, but very good value for money and will most likely get you high settings at least.
Yes exactly, i agree. i mean i am a competitive player and i dont look much on the details wen i play co z my mind goes far beyond wen strategizing so no more time to look much closer upon detail. but offcoarse it would be better with nice graphics.
I'm running on a GeForce 8400 GS, and sad to say I can only run Starcraft on medium graphics setting. There are a few occasional lags but still it is playable.
