StarCraft 2 Fansite Q&A Series (StarFeeder)

Wednesday seems to be the new release date for the fansite Q&A batches. Starfeeder received an e-mail containing theirs this morning. It's a decent batch and includes the announcement of a new Zerg unit, the Brood Lord. It replaces the Swarm Guardian but seems to be a heftier version with 325 HP. Dustin Browder was the respondent in the Q&A and confirmed a model change for the unit as well. The Q&A also covers some beta information and the role of Blizzard's eSports team.

Nice, nice, nothing really ground breaking but some interesting things including a new unit? awesome

 

W00t! I never really liked the Swarm Guardian's model. Lots of people were in awe at the mere sight of it, but aside from being large, it wasn't much in my eyes. Also, Brood Lord? That sounds so badass I am almost bound to get disappointed when I see it.

 

The broodling mechanic is the same though and I still don't like it. We see the usual responses instead of answers so... mediocre batch at best

Anyway, nice, but nothing special. Besides the new unit, of course. Anyone else who thinks the name is poorly chosen? Just the good old Guardian would be fine imo.

 

Yeah for the new unit, it just seems that Blizzard didn't like the old swarm guardian so they gave it a face lift. In my opinion that' just plastic surgery not a new unit.

 

When i first read Brood Lord, i really thought he was mucking around with us....now im not too sure....is there really a new unit?

 

yes, its really just a new name and a new model for the old guardian plus added health for added awesomeness.

same ability + new model + new name + more health = awesomeness.

 

Also, maybe they thought it was too similiar in name and look to the StarCraft Guardian so they changed the name and look .. which seems to be about all they did for the most part.

 

Good to see they're addressing the ZvZ roach vs roach issue.

I'm betting the brood lord will be pretty dang expensive to justify it's stats. It seems in line with siege tanks getting buffed and more expensive, and the colossus being a high price siege range unit.

Yeah, that's the Swarm Guardian.

@Seradin: The Swarm Guardian is removed. The new model you're referring to is going to be a different unit as far as categorization goes.

my mistake lol its the swarm guardian and the new model has yet to be unveiled.. hmm maybe this will be the first unit update on the SC2.com website in forever? wouldn't that be nice

 

Yeah, with the 'Brood Lord', do not get the impression that it's a new unit. Remember, a rose by any other name. The increase in health doesn't mean squat, either, as the stats of all units in StarCraft2 are changing all the time.

'Brood Lord' just seems like a cheesy name to me. I'd much rather they just rename it the 'Guardian', and simply polish their current model, like they have all the others. The one good thing about this change is that there will be a new model. That's not because the old model was bad, but for the heightened freedom of choice in the editor, provided they still do polish the Swarm Guardian up to a high enough standard.

By the way, can anyone find a higher-res version of that screenshot at the end? Looks like a pretty sweet one for us to have missed.

 

I didn't like the name ' Nighthawk ' when I first heard it but now I absolutely adore it and couldn't imagine it being called anything else.

I'll give ' Brood Lord ' some time before I decide.

 

I like the name change (Brood Lord). Sounds way better then the gimmicky Swarm Guardian.

I'm very positive that since they are gonna be remodeled considering that Swarm Guardian had a pretty good model, the Brood Lord model will be something that we will all love. We just have to wait and see. But I'm starting to really like the Zergs more and more after seeing BR 2 and knowing the Brood Lord news.

 

Ahh Brood Lord. Sounds scary, I like the sound of it already. Can't wait to see how it looks and plays!
