Is it just me, or is the terrain in starcraft 2 flat? Not counting the cliff levels (with ramps), the terrain appears to have no height variation.

In warcraft 3, it was common to see little mounds and depressions, in addition to the cliff levels.

I don't know. :) But I've always assumed it did have height variations, building on past blizzard rts games. Something like this:

flat flat (wc2) --> flat with cliffs (sc1) --> bumpy with cliffs (wc3) --> bumpy with cliffs, with background (sc2)

Only after this video did I think that maybe it didn't.

The gradual Zerg building growth is sick! O.O I knew Blizzard would implement that but it always surprises me how well they do their stuff.

Also it seems Neon was right with the guess that the woman with the glasses is one of the Agrians. Even though I'm not into the books at all I welcome them in the game to tie in with previous things better. I always thought that SC1 was somewhat secluded from the books, with new names and events (having completed the game) cropping up during plot discussions here.

Indeed. I'm curious about the color though. Was that cocoon pink as part of the team color, or is that just part of the art decision?

Another great vid. The only thing i dislike about it is in my opinion the tileset looks a bit tacky (cross between mechcommander and benchtop warhammer grass)

The solo video made me think to command and conquer because of the urban side of the map, but I didn't like it. I had the same feeling about the girl that give us informations. The map was not like a space city of something like that.
But it is certainly just the start of the campaign. I hope that everything deteriorates after.

I liked the zergs as always. Even if it was just two minuts, I liked.:)

That at 2:00 is a change in cliff/plateau level. The sloping ground you are seeing is the sc2 equivalent of the ramps you'd place in sc1. Only they are defined like in wc3 because of the polygon mesh. All of the height changes I see in this video are of this form.

Judging from what I see here, I don't think there is going to be feature in the editor to apply a brush tool over an area of terrain to smoothly raise it into a mound. The only sloping terrain in sc2 appears to be ramps between the cliff levels.

that's just a visual change, as far as i know, and has little effect on gameplay. i know in custom maps in WC3 you coudl make ridiculously huge hills and valleys, but units could still just walk up and down easily and didn't affect hit rates or whatnot.

    zomg, firebats and medics! wheee!
