Is starcraft coming soon to a store near me? No. But many of the stores seem to think so. In Brisbane yesterday I counted no less that 6 stores that had Starcraft 2 in their list of games due to be released soon. And in two of them they made up their own little poster and put that in the window. A poster home made all for SC 2.

Is anyone else noticing this kind of thing in the stores near you?

Guys, thats just a good business decision, they know the game isn't coming out soon, but they don't care about that, they are announcing the game to put pressure on the customers into reserving the game. there are online stores with a december 3 realese date, is that the release date? we know it can't be, theres not even a beta out, but they put that just to starts reserving games, when december 3 comes they'll "update" the date.

Jissé and Sogeking, please read the thread before posting in them.

I don't go to games stores so I don't know what they're up to, but I wouldn't be surprised to see fake claims to lure people in. It works though so I can't blame them.

I haven't seen anything like this yet, but I know I saw a release date for SCII on Amazon not too long ago. Gave me chuckles, because it was sometime in December.

saying even that starcraft 2 is coming out next summer is being optimistic.

Well, yes, optimistic. I stick with my new date of June '09 even though I think it will be slightly later than that, maybe more like October or November. But I still think it's reasonable to assume a release date in June.

Now a release date in December, as many game outlets are claiming, is just part of their scam.

Again, please do not pre-order this game until you receive official word from Blizzard and/or confirmation from this site. We will tell you when the release date is when we confirm it.

    :D Good gaming!

Besides, a lot of people tend to pre-order games, and its kind of useless because when the game hits the stores there are more than enough copies anyways, so you can just walk in the store and buy it.

Pre-order was not devised to help the consumer, the store doesn't care who buys the game, they just want anyone buying it, so they create this pre-order thing to create pressure and make the consumers think that if they do not pre-order they might not get the game. What amazes me is that it actually works, and people start pre-ordering like crazy, and who wins? the store, which has now secured a sale.

My advise, just sit and relax until the game comes out, then go to a store, take it from the shelve and go pay it.

That's not necessarily the case, so that plan might not work.

Although you're right about who benefits the most from preordering, it is at the same time a good feeling for the consumer as well, so it's a win-win for everyone.

I really would like to think that the advertising means the game is coming out soon, but I have my doubts. When I got the chance to play SC2 at Blizzcon last year, I was sure the game would be in beta within three months. I was pretty wrong that time, and I'm not really going to make any more assumptions about a release date until I hear something from blizzard.

I will admit that I'm hoping they announce something at this year's Blizzcon though :D

My cousin pre-ordered ghost, for $5, as we all know the game never was released, and he never got his game nor his $5 back.

    @kuvasz

Yeah some times there aren't enough games, but I have found out that it mostly only happens to, well lets say tier 2 or 3 games(tier reference for comparison) because games like halo and smash bros brawl which i expected to be sold out, there were more than enough. And there is a logic behind it, if the company making the game knows the game will sell like crazy, they will make more than enough, but for games that they think will sell good they make less untill they see how it sells.

personally, i went to smash's midnight release and there was too much people, but still there were enough games.

and I think starcraft is a game were blizzard knows it will sell like crazy, so i trust they will make more than enough...

This is exactly why you should not pre-order.

Ya, I think they will as well. However, some websites (or at least Amazon.com) are starting to offer a service where if you pre-order a video game, they will have it at your door the day it comes out. I might do that if none of the local game shops are having pre-orders (though I'm sure they will).

isn't the day it comes out the same as picking it up from the store shelve the day it comes out?

Unless its something like getting it a week before, or something like that where I get a benefit over non-pre-orders then I just don't see the point, but thats just me. and even if I can get it a week before, Im not really that obsessed and neither should anyone, its just a game.

It is more or less the same as picking it up the day its released, but the one difference is you can guarantee you will get a copy, whereas picking it up at the store they might get their copies a few days late, or it might be sold out.
