StarCraft 2 Beta Opt-ins Updated

  1. http://www.starcraft2forum.org/index.php?categoryid=9&p2_articleid=159

So, basically, you download this program which scans your computer to see what hardware specifications you have and if you have a computer that Blizzard is interested in testing then you'll likely be in the beta.

    Sounds good to me :)

I'm going to "scan" all of my computers and see if that helps my chances.

    Jay, but:

    • Still no specs, although it seems they already know what you will be needing. Kinda sad you only get to know this when beta starts. You might first need some more RAM, for example. Would be lame to be rejected because you lack a piece of hardware worth a ten bucks or so.
    • Note that they talk about merging WoW accounts not yet available in certain areas: they plan to have that ready before the release there. Big fail, this means seperate betas for certain areas. Or at least delayed.
    • Eh? In what category do you put keys given out by fansites? You have to specify at which even you got it. They fail to mention fansites in the FAQ.
    • I have no key. Lol.

That will be all, for now.

Im pretty sure if you have a computer that less than a year old it is going to run the game. They might even want people with lower end computers to see how low end computers handle the game.

Maybe even some computers that don't meet system specs they might want to be in BETA just to see if they can work. But then again that my cause more problems with trouble shooting. So I guess we will see.

I'm going to include my Macbook Pro in my system specs. Most likely, they would want Mac testers as well to see how the game runs :)

And it will obviously be a lot more wanted by Blizzard, since there are not that many people with Macs that are interested in playing the beta.

I mean, there are surely hordes of people out who own a great Mac system. But how many of them play Starcraft? And how many of those know of, or are interested in entering the beta? Hodl pu, just post info here if you get included. Ok? Please? :D

Haha, don't worry, I'll make sure to post if I get in, once i get over my excitement attack that is. How much RAM do you think is required? I currently have 2 gigs.

  10. What PC do you have Seradin? I've been wanting to upgrade my computer but never had the need until StarCraft 2 and now the release is dragging on and on so I have to wait for that, DirectX11, and Windows 7.

2 gigs is pretty much the standard amount these days. You should be just fine. However, you might need more for large maps with 12 or more filled slots. Those tend to eat up a lot more RAM then other maps. Just look at Warcraft 3. Still, those maps are rarely played competetively, at least by me. And it might only be the case in high detail settings.

I would be more concerned about your videocard. It needs quite a bit of memory and power, if you look at all those visuals that were recently added. But with a recent Mac system you have nothing to worry about. At leart not if you are satisfied with not having uberhigh resolutions and stuff like that. I hope this takes most of your concerns away. :D

    Bragging NASA employee. ;)
And I'm still sitting here with my 4 year old pc, and I've been "buying" a new one for over a year now. Perhaps this is the time to start taking this a bit more seriously.

Sounds like a sweet build ;). I've thought of an upgrade, but to be honest.. I don't need it... yet.

  17. I'm going to be putting together a Core i7 920, GTX380, 8GB RAM with Windows 7 before or shortly after StarCraft release. If StarCraft 2 comes out before the GTX 380's get their first price drop and before Windows 7 then I'll wait for those but, otherwise, I'll have that PC before StarCraft 2 is released. I'm even going to be making sure I have a powerful enough power supply to put 2 or 3 of those GTX380's in as time passes by and that card gets pwned by PS5/Xbox4 games :)

Now, before you guys go flaming me for spending 1000$+ on a PC, just know that because I build my own PC's I'll be getting it for about half so no flaming please :D I won't be spending as much as you think.

-- Nice rig Lobster :D That's slightly better than Seradin's rig but it won't matter in the least since StarCraft 2 will be child's play for that even maxed.

@Lobster: Nah, you won't need to upgrade that PC for a LOOONG time since consoles will be holding back PC games for several years. I'm just buying that PC because I get pretty much all of my money back when I trade them in so I can afford to splurge :D

I saw the post now, but how is it better?

You don't say a 9800GTX is better than two 4870's?
    And also a E8400 @ 4Ghz is more than 3 :p

  19. E8400@3GHz vs E8400@4GHz
    GeForce 9800GTX vs HD4870

-- Oh, I didn't know you had 2x HD4870. But, either way, I said your PC was better than Seradin's not the other way around. A HD4870 single is better than a 9800GTX+ so two of them is just that much better!
