    The open beta starts today.

10k keys being given away here, if you're interested yo may want to hurry.

I'd tell you something about the game, but so far I'm still downloading it. Expect a long download unless you have a paid fileplanet account.

I consider this game to be overhyped and pretty shabby. However I will grab one key anyways because I am a ***** who does not want other people who really want to try this game out to play. You might call it cruel. I call it helping my good old buddy, Evolution.

I've never had any interest in star trek until I saw the new movie. It's actually pretty good science fiction imo.
**** starwars. Yes all the old ones too.

Fenix, how are you downloading the client? I'm using the torrent and just now at 68% myself.

    Qwest.

    I pay for 1.5mb/s.

    I get 800kb/s

During the day, they throttle me to 500kb/s

That's kb, not Kb. Kilobit. Divide that by 8 and you have my internet speed.

No customer service or competitors I take it.

Well, I would guess you have called them up before...did you at least get a hilariously unreasonable excuse?

As it turns out the keys were gone that same day.

As it turns out the game is kinda poopy anyways.

The ground missions are nothing but awful. Very clunky controls and an incredibly ugly UI. It might be fun with other people, but good luck getting a group together. All the zones are instanced like in Champions Online and it's rare to find someone doing the same thing outside of the tutorial levels.

Space battles are fun at first but quickly degrades into a non strategic "fire all weapons at all times" click fest. My biggest grip is that your ship can't really move in full 3d. You can only move up and down in 45degree angles. You can adjust power from weps/shields/engines/aux, but its rare that you really do since your role (tank/heals/dps) dictates what power levels to use most of the time. The bridge officers you pick up are nothing more than passive buffs or an extra key to click.
It defiantly does not give you the feeling of commanding a ship that Cryptic had billed.
Also ram into what the hell ever you like nothing happens.

Another issue I had is how great the character customization is. You can make a Federation officer that looks just like you (or completely alien) in pretty much what ever style uniform you like. Which is later covered up by hideous armor.

Give this game another year to cook and it might be something great. Or even leave as it is not as an MMO. I'd be willing to pay a one time $40 fee, but thats about it.

    @ Higgs, leave Picard alone.
    He's on the level.
