An idea of mine was to have already implemented a model creation kit to go with your starcraft 2 map editor. The model creator would provide you with different body types, limbs, and accessories you can mix and match to create unlimited amounts of different characters for your maps. In addition, you could edit such body types, limbs, and accessories by changing tint, shading, colors, size, and adding/removing extra features giving even more variety to your characters. With such a tool, modders would have a much, MUCH easier time in creating custom models and textures without having to go through the painstaking task of creating art from scratch. Best of all, you can edit the standard models already provided by blizzard to make new ones. So what do you all think of this idea?
No, you needed other tools to make models and skins for warcraft 3, like photoshop, but it still may take a great deal of time. What I am trying to present is an easy and fast way for amateurs and pros alike to make new models for their maps.
OK. I completly misunderstood you... THen i must say im against you idea... Blizard shouldnt implent a model-program, if you really want to make your own skin etc. you can just use photoshop... BLizzard is making games, not model-programs...
If they support the mod community then this would be a good idea, and it is not so much a model program as it is a map editor module for creating and saving custom models into your map. If you are a modder, then you would appreciate this tool as much as I would.
Blizzard may not make their own custom model creation/editing tools, but I think there's huge opportunity for them here if they were to do such a thing and sell it in the form of an editor's package. Even if they didn't want to take their own (very precious) time to create such a package, they could always get together whatever tools they do use and have whoever has the rights to them (unless Blizzard is using open source 0.0) do some modifications and release the tools in association with Blizzard and SC2. A sort of software sublet with shared profits. The only argument against this sort of thing (that I can think of right now) would be that giving players so much flexibility with a game might deter them from buying another game (cuz they're simply having so much fun with SC2). Of course, as far as Blizzard is concerned, this would still be an argument in favor of this idea, because let's face it, everybody wants their games anyway, so I think it would just get them that much more respect if they gave players such a dynamic game.
that would be great if implemented. another idea you get to make your own character like the game sims 2 or nba live etc... then you can you use your character in the campaign and replace raynor inside the hyperions bridge or something. now if they blizzard can only up close units in game just like warhammer 40k. ^^
Also an in editor portrait creator that would use the same character creation and also allow to use pre-existing video
