I actually thought it was pretty good, alot of people dont think it was because they dont look at the wide scope or the creativity it provides.

i spent hours on the creature creator alone!

The gameplay's great. I love the creators and the user created content and everything, BUT (and this is a big but) the DRM almost ruins it.

I think it's an absolutely incredible game. IMO it took what's best about The Sims and combined them with Civ (Which we all know to be the best TBS series EVER). I absolutely LOVE playing god.

    I voted haven't bought it.

I bought it today. Planning on installing it later tonight and giving it a go. I literally spent ages in the creature creator. Already designed all the creatures I'm planning on implementing, as well as a Goblin Shredder and the Prime Evils. :D

I just went out and bought it, and OMFG it's installing right now. Go to chat for a real-time update, and I might write a review this weekend, if I manage to reach the space-age... or better yet, the center of the universe!

Haha, a Hex Gor was just something Fenix made up ages age. But it's a good point, I might try for one of those later... :p

I've just gotten up to the Tribal phase, and I gotta say, the creature phase was really quite awkward. They need to make turning much quicker, and Charge much more reliable for it to have it all working properly. Just generally, it didn't handle too well. Maybe it was just me or my compy, and I've heard the later stages are the better ones anyway, but I reckon it just needs to be a bit more user-friendly.

For the Cell stage I obviously used the mouse, seeing as with the keyboard you can only move in eight directions, but for the Creature stage I used the keyboard, seeing as otherwise the camera didn't track behind your Creature. It just all seemed a bit awkward. Is there a better way to do it?

Use the mouse for the Creature stage. It'll play out a LOT like Diablo that way.

Yeah, it's much smoother now. Just getting used to it all, I s'pose. Also I didn't realise that the camera gradually tracks behind you with the mouse, so thought you had to constantly correct it through right-clicking and whatnot.

I think the Stage that has the less finishing is the Tribal Stage. But it does not really matter since the game is revolving a lot on Space Stage. All other stages are created to you can evolve your race and get attached to it. Once in Space Stage the game fires up really, you get a lot to do.

Right now I've been in Space stage for long time, I started badly by starting 3 wars against 3 Empires with 3Starts 4Stars and 5Stars Rating (I had 1 Star System so I was at 1Star rating. 5Stars seems to be 10 Star System+) But once I started to grow I became quite unstoppable. I made my evolution progress bar to max and I barely begun with the domination of the Galaxy so the game really kicks in in Space Stage.

TIP: As soon as you encounter an Empire Ally with it as soon as possible. Even if you follow the Warrior/Carnivore path you'll need allies surrounding your empire to have less attack on your planets, giving you time to expand and make money. Once strong enough, eliminate the allies 1 by 1 if you want. I don't suggest it since they might have technology that you don't.

I've played a whole to much = / .Now I need to conquer the center of the Galaxy which seems to be THE hotspot. Most probably I'll need to remove the evil GROX Empire from there, that's what I guessed.

    Great game

Since people like rating systems i'll rate each stage xD. Not counting the time each one will take you
    Cell
9/10 (Achieves what it sets out to do, but maybe a little bit short)

    Creature
7/10 (Carnivore path is quite fun but the herbivore path can get annoying on harder difficulties, after 30 minutes you really want to change stages again)

    Tribal
6/10 (Not much happens...give your guys tools and click on another village)

    Civilisation
7/10 (Creators are fun to tinker with, over simplicity of combat, Military civilisations seem to destroy religous/economic ones (AI) within 5 minutes. I just want to go to space !!)

    Space
8/10 (Large amount of content, your whole civilisation seems to be helpless without your mothership, Grox invasions are just GG, wars mean you can't do anything until every last enemy is dead and buried (unless you want to pay them 1million credits...)Terraforming can be quite fun,of course your world destroying bomb can also be quite fun ^^)

    Overall
8/10 (Each stage is fun to tinker with for about 30 minutes (except space) but then you relise you've done everything you possibly can and you just want to move on to the next stage. Creators are awesome as well as your old creations being added to the game. The ability to make a pokemon world then blow the planet up with a giant bomb!!!)

It cost them like 75 million to make...doesn't seem worth that amount, but its pretty good.
    Buy it !

Overall, I reckon the best thing about Spore is that it'll lead on to Spore2. They've got all the basics, and they've got all the uniqueness of their user generated content working well, so hopefully in Spore2 the stages will be a lot more advanced. The early stages at the moment, particularly the Creature stage, I didn't find the Tribal stage too bad, are quite repetitive. It's either kill X or impress Y species, then migrate. It was still fun, especially being able to always go back and alter your creation, but was still a bit repetitive.

    Spore2 here we come!
