Did anybody think the story was contradictory? Spoiler After finishing the Zeratul storyline I was convinced that we had to save the queen of blades because she is the only weapon against the hybrids. Then in the climax, Raynor turned the queen of blades back into Kerrigan...knowing that he needed the Queen to save the galaxy! So what's the deal? Anybody else find this to be weird?
Not really. Spoiler She doesn't look back to her old self at the end. She may still posses ability to control the zerg for all we know. Even if not she may serve some other purpose, Zeratul isn't at all clear about what she is needed for. Either way, Queen of Blades or Keri; you're splitting hairs. Same person, Queen of Blades just sounds cooler for the cinematic.
Spoiler I do not think it is splitting hairs at all. Raynor believed the artifact would cure Kerrigan's infestation. On the other hand, the point of Zeratul's story was to inform Raynor that the Queen of Blades was the key to defeating the Hybrid. Yet, Raynor still went ahead and cured Kerrigan without ever reconciling these two conflicts. I feel like this is a major gap in the story, and I was disappointed to see that the story didn't resolve this issue. Hopefully in Heart of the Swarm...
I'm not sure why use the spoiler tags in the spoiler forum so Ill drop that. You're missing my point. Whgen Zeratul says we need the Queen of Blades you don't need to assume he specificly means infested Kerigan. Just because he used the title and not her first name is nothing. It's not like he said we need her to control the zerg in the fight agaisnt the hybrids. Just that we need her. Zeratul doesn't exactly think highly of Kerigan after what happened on Shakuras. It would be weird for him to refer to her as Kerigan, which is her human name. To him, she is a monster, nothing more. Once agian; he doesn't say why we need her. It seems he doesn't really know.
Hey just stepping with a related question. So in the campaign there is indeed no secret ending or specifics (as far as we know) that relate to this upcoming apocalyptic event, or specifically by who, how to stop it, or even if we're screwed already by cleansing Kerigan of her zerg half? Shortened to say we literally know NOTHING? I tend to agree on kissmyanthia's point though, the story is a bit fragmented with Jim talking to the crew about his experiences with the Crystal but it has no influence what so ever on the primary storyline. One would think if your girlfriend is a key point in history you would get more facts before waging an all out war against her.
It's not like Kerrigan is dead. If they really needed the "Queen of Blades" to save the universe, she could always just get captured and re-infested by the zerg. Or maybe she can still control the zerg, even as a human. Who knows.
I think Kerrigan still has the power to control the zerg, in fact I am betting that heart of the swarm will be about kerrigan learning how to control the zerg without the brainwashing/infestation. The end cinematic shows she still has her zerg dreds.
zeratul and kerrigan well this is about zeratul's story: when we encounter for the first time the hybrids, zeratul says something like "what?who have done this?" i think its kind a stupid cuz he is the only one who knew about the hybrids and their creator (Duran),so why the surprise?i think its a plot mistake. about kerrigan, well they needed kerrigan to defeat the hybrids and the "dark voice" and at the end,she is human again? before the release of SC2 i thought it would be cliche and boring if kerrigan turned human.and it happened.but now she is human....so who controls the zerg?
There's no way in hell kerrigan could have saved them if the zerg side of her was still in control because it's assumed she was under the Xel'nagas influence just like the overmind since a "normal" zerg shouldn't have any drive to be a genocidal psychopath. I don't think she's been just simply turned back into a normal human either, more like her human side is now in control. The fact that she still has tentacle hair in the final scene is a strong hint at this.
The logical way to resolve the plot: - Zeratul learns of the prophecy - Zeratul contacts Queen of Blades, sharing the prophecy with ther and proposing a truce against the greater common enemy - until the hybrids are defeated - Queen of Blades, though evil, was not psychotic and would likely accept this deal - planning some sort of trechery, of course - Mengsk has Raynor assassinated, possibly discrediting him first with a feigned terrorist attack - slaughtering civilians and so on. The way it plays out is: Mengsk allows Raynor to stomp all over him. And then fails to notice when his son steals half the fleet. And then the fleet somehow mysteriously rebels against Mengsk and goes under his son's orders. Raynor, despite holding in his hands the fate of the universe and all three races, decides to go in cowboy style. He risks killing Kerrigan through shooting siege tanks and yamato guns at her (at least in my game) and then experiments on her with a deadly Xel Naga artifact. The artifact may or may not have destroyed Kerrigan's ability to stop the Hybrids. It's a risk he took, we don't know the outcome yet... I loved the game and the story, of course... Though the plot does seem a bit sketchy if you examine it closely. But then, they could have flown into Mordor on the back of great eagles and dropped the ring into the fires of mount doom from the air
that's totally wrong. The overmind made the Queen of Blades as a weapon against the Xel Naga, and Kerrigan broke free of the Overmind's influence in the original starcraft.
I did some more research since my last post.. The 'Dark Voice' is not necessarily a Xel'Naga, (on the wiki it's been not declared as anything in particular but merely a "Void entity") The Xel'Naga did indeed mess with the Overmind but it wasn't them who made the Zerg go after the Protoss. With Overmind #1 - Dead. Split the zerg between Overmind #2, and Kerrigan. Brood War = Dead Overmind #2. Leaving Kerrigan sole benefactor. But what I have not determined is if that psychic influence ended with the first Overmind? If Kerrigan was being controlled subtly and that's what made her evil and psychotic well, then I guess that would explain her becoming nice again once human. But if that she was merely acting out her own desires then what should we expect, Kerrigan to suddenly jump up and down thanking Raynor? Sounds worse to me. And when you go back to the whole hybrid+zerg vs ALL war that's coming, if Kerrigan's influence over the Zerg kept the Zerg from being controlled by the 'Dark Voice', we get back to the matter of who controls the Zerg now that Kerrigan is human? I seriously am concluding that Jim Raynor messed up big time and we'll see a lot of backpedaling by Terrans and Zerg.
Not weird at all. I think her experience as a Zerg is going to have left her more powerful than ever before. I think she's still rightfully called the Queen of Blades.....just without the genocidal tendencies and nicer skin. Wouldn't be susprised if Heart of the Swarm is about her regaining control over the Zerg. This time to prevent the Xel Naga baddies from doing in the whole universe.
I think that's where this is going. She's still the Queen of Blades. Being human isn't a disqualifier for the title. In fact, it might turn out to be a requirement before it's over with.
I'm delighted she turned back human. Frankly, I'm sick of Blizzard's standard "bad guy wins" method of story telling. This is a nice departure from their usual claptrap. Edit: And Kerrigan is still going to control the Zerg. I'd bet on it.
I'm concluding that Kerrigan will still be able to control the Zerg as a human. In fact, I think we're going to find out that she would not have been able to resist the Xel Naga if she hadn't been de-zergitated.
