Will heroes have special abilities? For example, in the movies, Zeratul has super agility and Raynor's battlecruiser has this light-speed jump or something. Will other heroes have other special abilities and will we be able to use their abilities in-game? It looks cool, and it would be awesome to actually use them instead of just watching it.
I think there might be a few. Remember that Tassadar had a melee attack? He was different then other units of his type. After what Blizzard did in Warcraft 3, I would be suprised of there are no unique hero abilities. Also: I think that we might also see a return of units like the Hunter Killer during missions, those are also special. Why I think this? Every rts does it.
Heros will likely have abilities that are unique from normal units. This was mentioned in a blue post awhile back, but I really don't want to try and dig it up.
Zeratul as a Dark Templar with the new Zealot charge would be pretty sweet. As for abilities completely unique to heroes, I don't see why not.
"lol". I know I'm really going out on a limb for this one, but I get this information from Starcraft 1 and also every RTS with a hero character in the campaign ever made, "lol". Asking this is the equivalent of asking if heroes will have unique voice acting during missions. There are some things it's safe to assume. No, wait, I mean Jim Raynor will just have a ranged attack. That's it. Yep.
inb4 'This isn't Warcraft III" As LK said, there was a blue post a while back alluding to it, and I think it would be a great idea. After all, these people aren't special because they have a better gun or sharper claws, they're better because of their ingenuity and their prowess.
Actually, in Starcraft 1, they were special because of their hp and attack, not to mention instant defeat should one of them die...unless you're supposed to kill them...(Sorry Fenix) Anyways, heroes with super attacks will be super-cool and dead useful.
Best quote I could find on heroes: 4) Will "caster" units, such as the Protoss High Templar, have a regular attack, like Tassadar had in SC1, or will they only be able to attack through their spells? Currently, there are no plans to give the High Templar a physical attack, though High Templar Story Characters will have additional abilities beyond that of the standard unit. At the moment, the High Templar is one of best support units in the game, with the ability to cast a devastating Psi Storm or choke off crucial areas of the map with the force field ability. Once youve used up its energy, no worries, convert it into an Archon with another Templar. Source: Karune Batch 15.
One thing I'm really disappointed with about heroes is the fact that SC1 did not show any combination of the Dark Templar and High Templar energies from Tassadar. This is my biggest disappointment of all. This combination in my opinion would make Tassadar an excellent Hero character as well as an overall character in the story (Although considering his wisdom and intelligence, it may make his character a little too overpowered if he has shown to demonstrate his abilities to use dark templar and high templar energies). Blizzard probably tried to implement this idea by creating the "Twilight Archon", but they removed it and simply renamed it as "Archon". Coincidentally enough Blizzard has hinted the possible revival of his character (which now officially makes his title "Twilight Messiah" unique"). Hopefully, we'll get to see a mix of these in one of the Heroes. In my opinion, Blizzard may make this ability to control both High and dark templar energies (which, if I'm correct, is named Twilight) as the key to destroying whatever forces that'll appear in SC2 (the Hybrids probably). I also love to see some uniqueness in Terran characters. I love to see Tyrus hold a shotgun type weapon. Maybe even a unique Siege tank that fires twice as fast or fires twice in a roll.
Maybe a Protoss hero can use the black hole ability of the Mothership. This ability is cut now. So maybe just one hero, one Protoss flying hero can use this ability.
