As well all know the events of blizzcon have shown us a very unique and impressive new way of story telling in starcraft 2 and one of the features i like about this new system is the ability to stare out the window and get a wide view of the ships surroundings. Also as you all know starcraft 1 has quite afew large space battles in it that we fought with groups of bc's and carriers so what if lets say there is a part of the campagine that the hyperion was to enter into a large battle in orbit and instead of a cinematic of the battle the player will be allowed to freely roam the ship but if they looked out the window they would see other ships firing at each other and the bridge would be alive with people constantly moving around and Horner would be standing next to some of them giving orders. This mode would not affect gameplay much as the player could still go down to the planet and finish their mission it would just add a little graphical addition. Example: (ship moves into orbit above (insert planet name) Horner: Sir the domionion fleet has arrived within weopens range and we have began firing. (battle starts outside) Horner: Sir i will take the bridge for now, that artifact won't get up here it self. (raynor moves away from bridge and main mission starts on the planet) (after mission and after returning to ship horner gives you a brief report of the battle and outside there are now giant floating "shipwreaks" of the enemy fleet, note: this may give way to another mission if the ship is damaged and that mission could be on getting a few minerals for repairs) Hopefully that made sense..... 8)
yeah I dunno what this goof is talking about cause yes it made alot of sense. this should probably be in story discussion however because you're essentially just discussing possibly story turns and possibly semi-cinematics. Considering at blizzcon they specifically said the terran campaign will be alot of scrounging up money to build a fleet to take on the dominion what you said made alot of sense. I would see this happening near the late game though. Good thinking.
yah i like the idea of putting space battle in the in game cut scenes(movies). yes! and viewing it on the hyperion. BUT ofcourse i also want the real cinematic version of space battles too. =) http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/index.php?topic=2040.0
That sounds cool. One of the things I liked about half life 2 was the fact that there were no cutscenes there was just scripted action so you could wander about while two characters were talking. The Hpeian thing could work like that.
it would be cool if you were doing the lore things to get the missions and then suddenly the ship shakes like hell and voila!!! enemies are attacking you!!! and you could see a space battle ongoing while you try to decide on what to do next...hehe
I had a similar thought (but simpler) the first time I saw the campaign demo. You may be able to see some distant fighting from the window, but that's it.
speaking of cinematics, i have high hopes for starcraft II... i hope they have a dozen five-minute long cinematics... that would be so cool...
that would be sick, its a great idea. If you notice in SC1 sometimes the cinematics/cut scenes are a replay of what you actually just did in the mission (or were like 2 seconds away from doing). Say for example that one mission took place on a space platform and that the mission ends with an epic space battle, at the end of the mission there could be a cinematic of the final space battle taking place, or you could have something like IO suggested, where you can see the dying aftermath of the battle (or the whole battle itself).
That would be cool. I am hoping for massive space battle cinematics, but a gameplay sequence on the Hyperion with one outside would be awesome.
