Sonic Riders is a racing game using sonic characters and is my favorite game for the Game Cube. The characters you could use/unlock are: sonic, shadow, tails, knuckes, amy, creme, Dr. eggman, jet, rouge, storm, wave, E-10000R, E-10000G, and ulala. It also has the character AiAi who I believe is from Monkey Ball and Nights from the game Nights into Dreams (also in Journey of Dreams for the Wii). This game introduced a new racing mechanic called turbulence. When a character used boosts, they would create turbulence behind their board. Other players could ride this turbulence to gain a speed boost. Also, doing tricks while in turbulence would allow you to go faster, eventually catching up with the person who is creating it. The rules of the game are as follows: -8 players race at one time, and the goal is to get first -each character has their own ability, either speed, fly, or power that allow them to take certain shortcuts -speed allows you to grind on rails -fly allows you to fly off jumps and fly through speed rings -power allows you to break barrels/boxes -all vehicles run on air(fuel) to move, if you run out of air, you have to get off your board and run to the nearest filling station -when you collect 30 rings, you become lvl 2; giving you a more powerful attack, faster speed, and a larger air capacity -when you get 60 rings, you become lvl 3; giving your attack the ability to paralyze, making you even faster, and having maximum air capacity. -when you get hit from an attack, you lose all your rings, so be careful. -performing tricks gives you energy depending on how good the trick was, C, B, A, AA, S, SS, and X. The vid shows sonic and co. fighting the final boss in the game, the guardian of an ancient civilization's (Babylon)treasure. The strange wind-like trails forming during the beginning of the race is the turbulence described above. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDfjnCPxdhM&NR=1 For those of use who have played it, what did you think of the game?
And I thought you couldn't make Mario Kart any more sophisticated. My thoughts on the vid: - I can't see sh*t while in the turbulence - The track is boring - I haven't seen any weapons - The music and sounds are too asian for me ;D But I'm not a fan of consoles so all the above kind of makes sense. Each to his own I guess.
What'd you expect from straight track with two turns? It looks quite good, I like the idea of turbulence - let's you catch up making it more challenging and gives more chance if you fall behind. It would be nice if you could see anything in it though
The weapons are the boosting. If you hit an enemy player while boosting, you knock them aside. If you are lvl 2 or 3, you hit Them with a weapon that is customized for your character only. ie: hammer for amy, cheese for creme, an electrical chord for tails. As for the track, that is the most basic one here is another track. he player is Jet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzqS7m0AhVs Unfortunately, the only vids I can find use the Japanese voiceovers.
