Same reasons as the Humans. Both of them have been fighting against the Horde since the Second War.

Long story short, gnomes run to the dwarves for safety and got kinda dragged into the war. WoW lore for you.
Short story long? Anything by ****ens

I never got the difference between gnomes and dwarves. Is it that gnomes have bigger noses?

Dwarves are stouter and the more eh. Rude kind of midgets.

Gnomes are intellectual, four fingered, sex machines. With outrageous facial hair.

@ Light. This isn't Space Junk.

@ jiffy. The Gnomes gave more than machinery in the Second War. They piloted the flying machines, subs and were the demolition men. Goblins were obviously better at all that though. The Zepplin design is far simpler than the overly complex Gnomish Flying Machines, with the subs the Goblins didn't even bother designing motors, airtight vessels or ways to submerse the whole contraption and just tied the torpedoes to the backs of Giant Turtles and there's no point being a Sapper if you're not a sadistic masochist.

And as for the difference between Dwarves and Gnomes...

    Dwarves. Gnomes.

The usual differences. Gnomes are much, much smaller.

and the flying machines were piloted by the dwarfs as well, because the gnomes were at home to protect their capital

@ Meee. I thought that was in WarCraft3, with the Mortar Teams, but seeing as I'm always consistently wrong with some aspect of Gnomes and Dwarves, etc, in WarCraft2 and 3, I'd better check.

Damn, you've right. Still, the Goblins kick their arses when it comes to flying machines and subs. The Gnomes do all this random crap and crazily complex calculations in order to come up with an incredibly unstable Flying Machine or Submarine, and the Goblins just stick whatever they need to a balloon or turtle, and on top of that, they blow themselves up, and do it much better than the Dwarves ever could.

@ Jiffy. Gnomish Flying Machines were definitely piloted by Gnomes.

What do you mean flying machines and subs? Goblins kick gnomes arses in everything ;)
Also one of the reasons I love greenskin in WH - they do pretty much everything in that "stick whatever's at hand" way :D

I think that being at home protecting capital took place during the war with Legion (WC3 time)
