1.Does having a so called "defensive unit" like a queen seem to make the understanding and ability to play zerg too easy? I get the feeling that it almost makes the sunken colony useless... I'm like... when would you use a sunk over a queen? 2. What exactly is the point of the dual gas mechanic? Like, maybe I could see the dual gas mechanic as being useful if that gas could actually be spent but.... is the point for being able to use the tactic of something like mass baneling? It almost makes gas, something that is suppose to hold special weight over minerals, feel less special. 3. What are the most popular UMS maps for starcraft 2 to date? Has anyone made anything that awesome yet? I would really like to play something like the old bunker command... it was a riot.
1. The Queen does about the same damage as a Marine. She has much less health than a Spine Crawler, does less damage, and has less range. Against air, the queen is slightly more effective, since she has a lot of AA range. Even then, though, the unit is not really a replacement for a full defense. The Queen's "defensive" abilities are not active defense- they're passive. Transfusion can be used to keep defending units from dying, to keep Spine Crawlers from dying. Creep Tumors spread creep, which makes all Zerg units more effective at defending because they get to where they need to be faster. In general, most players would agree that the Queen makes Zerg harder to play, and is what makes Zerg possibly the hardest race to get used to in SC2. Effective use of Spawn Larva and Spawn Creep Tumor require a lot of attention. 2. In SC2, you get 4 gas per trip instead of 8. So, building a single Refinery/Extractor/Assimilator is not the same as building one in SC1, it's more like building half of one. With one gas structure, you can get units and structures that only require a little gas, but you have to get both in order to maintain full production past tier 2. Most people I've spoken to generally find that gas is harder to come by, and therefore more valuable, than it is in SC1. All races have macro mechanics that boost mineral income, so you're almost always more likely to be broke on gas than you are to be broke on minerals. 3. I just checked the custom game list. The top two are Nexus Wars and Ultimate Tank Defense, each with over 10k games played in the last hour (Nexus Wars has nearly 20k at the moment.)
