If it matters I always play protoss, but anyways.. i've been watching some replay videos and it seems like right when the game starts a lot of the players have thier probes/scvs go straight to the minerals without actually clicking the units and then clicking the minerals? maybe I just can't see it on the video? or is there a hotkey to do this? Also I'm trying to learn better hotkeys and I was wondering what were the most important/standard ones you guys use? If you had say an army of stalkers/zealots/collosus should you make all of them like hotkey 1 or do you make zealots/stalkers 1 and just the collosus 2, etc. to manage them better? Lastly how many of you use the grid setup? Seems like it would be easier if you get used to it, but I've gotten used to W for warp gate, A for attack etc. is there a grid hot key like W for warp gates? Do most pro players use standard or grid?

    thanks a lot

First off, double click a harvester then right click any mineral field. The harvesters will automatically separate and mine different mineral nodes without you having to micro manage.

Second, separate units by role. Don't separate by class. This is pointless. You will overburden yourself with micro management and not do nearly as well.

When I have a large force to manage, I hotkey whatever units are used as general infantry, so say marines and marauders, and keep them as a basic force to attack whatever is needed.

I then hotkey any special units such as tanks, thors or air units in a separate key so I can quickly find them. This works best because units with special abilities need to be micro managed, but general infantry can just be macro'd with basic attack and move commands.

i know i can do the double click harvester thing just looked like they didn't even do that on the videos but probably just couldnt tell

if you have special units such as tanks and thors (me would be like collosus/immortals) AND air units would you do all those on the same hotkey or thors and tanks on one and air units on another. Should I have units like sentries hotkeyed as there own number or those can be with zealots etc?

Also, you say basic move commands... which of these commands are essential? I usually just click where I want units to go or use A for attack haha

That just means you are probably still a lot slower than most of your opponents. Need to improve your speed a bit.

And like I said, best to organize by role. So if your units are being used as a general attack force, such as thors might be, don't bother sorting them out.

However, if a unit requires micro management, such as a siege tank using siege mode at a certain time or a banshee cloaking at a certain time, keep it hotkeyed so you can get to those units quickly.
