So, just picked this game up.

    Holy crap.

    It is awesome.

For those who have never heard of it, it's basically an RTS on a solar scale. There's maps ranging from 1v1 all up to 10v10... Some of those 10v10 maps have over 100 planets. It doesn't have the frentic micro that SC has... Rather, the game unfolds on a rather leisurely scale. Fear not though, as later in these larger games, the space battles can be HUGE. I recently finished a seven hour map (played for about 2 hours at a time - <3 saving ._.). My end fleet size was well over three hundred ships. Good times.

    Anyone play it?

I used to play it for quite some time, then I got sick of the complete lack of lore in the game.
It's just no fun to play 10 hour games, only to get a score screen in the end. I missed some kind of progress in the game. But other then that, it's absolutely amazing. Hadn't had so much fun with making giant space fleets since playing the Homeworld 2: Complex mod. (which is incredibly good, especially for a mod)

What race do you play? I always played as the Advent. Their carrier style ships are epic. Really fun to just stop at the edge of a system, unleash your drones, and wait for stuff to start blowing up. Oh, and it's really good against the pirate home planets. Can't really crack those on hard mode with the other races. :/

When my friend showed me SoSE I just couldn't be bothered to play it - I found micromanaging units in 3-D space very disorienting, all the ships seemed like a hard counter for only ONE other ship...in short, it was a new game that didn't catch my eye, and at the time I'd rather spend what little free time I had unwinding by playing a game that I knew, rather than confusing and annoying myself trying to learn the gameplay of a game I really didn't care for.

However, nowadays I have quite a bit more free time on my hands, so I may just give it another go if I have enough money on hand.

I find it a very good game, i'm always playing as the human trade allaince or whatever its called, just so i can build the giant nuke canon. Also the capitol ships are just plain awesome.

I liked bombarding planets while still fighting with it's defenders.
This thread makes me want to play it again. :D
