Guys, Just a simple doubt: with Terran, we have tank with siege mode, longe range attack, but I coulnd't find anything similiar with Protoss. Is there something that i didn't see??? Thanks, Max
Colossus get a upgrade at the Robotics Bay called Extended Thermal Lance which gives them a total upgraded range of 9, not quite matching the Siege Tanks Siege abilities range of 13 but still giving it siege capability over static defenses such as Photon Cannons with a range of 7. -Seradin
terrans are the absolute masters of range with seige tanks. vikings are also the longest range air-to-air unit. colossus is the closest thing for protoss.
don't be noob and expect StarCraft to be like Red Alert, Age of Empires, or any of those non-competitive RTS games where all the "races" are exactly the same except for 1-2 units. In SC you cannot expect each race to have the same kind of units, it is based off counter units, you don't counter tanks with the exact same kind of unit. To answer your question, every unit has an advantage and a weakness therefore sieged Tanks can shoot far but cant shoot sh!t melee range or air. What does that tell you? you need to have melee units or bring your units really close. You are going to tell me "But i can't get close because they have marines and marauders", this where you need unit diversity. immortals and archons are good to absorb tank damage while you send your zealots zealots with charge rape tanks. phoenixes can lift them up while you own the rest of his army colossi with support of guardian shield Void rays blink stalkers dark templars mutalisk mass zerglings + hydras + roaches + infestors burrowed roaches and move them under the tanks ultralisk you are suppose to catch them from a flank, not head on you can drop units on them so they splash damage each other
A little bit of overreaction there Chowzilla, since he did not complain in any way, and by the fact that he is a terran player. Carriers are also kinda a siege unit, since it have a base range of 8, and i think that it can move some way back while still attacking.
my bad. my SC2 ego took over, i thought he was asking if there was a similar unit that could counter the tanks. protoss's long range units are colossi, carriers and void rays
rays only have range of 6, so I cant really call that a long range unit since they get outranged by static defenses.
yeah, void rays aren't long-range, but i would still consider them "seige" units because they're great at taking out static defenses and buildings after they're charged up.
Ok, guys!!! Thanks for the comments.. just a note, I've already tried to play other games, like Empire of State, Commander .. but I could't SC is totally different.. much much better!!! And I did that question because in SC1, we have Reaver in Protoss, that is almost like tank in siege mode... but that's OK.. SC2 is amazing!!! bye
Terrans are the race of survivability. Every unit has a way of taking little to no damage(bunkers, ridiculous ranges, repairs, heals), while the protoss serve as mighty warriors, and the zerg are an all-consuming swarm. The only way for the terrans to survive is not get close to either at all. At least, thats the philosophy that is also integrated in the lore.
