This is from the latest Q&A:

"Siege Tanks firing from the fog of war, such as on an unseen cliff, will not reveal its location from the fog of war to its enemy, thus will not be able to be return fired upon."

This will most likely(why not?) apply to ALL units, which opens up interesting tactics involving ambushes.
In SC1 you always knew where you were attacked from, and could counter it with the right units. But now, They could be anywhere in the area. Scouting will probably be even more important now. Atleast when facing Siege Tanks. :p

I think that this is a great change, I am already looking forward to use these kinds of surprises, since the enemy has to find out where your long ranged units are after being attacked.

I think it's a good thing. It was not good when the tank appeared hen he shoot.
It didn't look real. I like it better this way. :)

I can't wait to see the look on those Zealots faces as they search frantically for my siege tanks (when I play Terran)

The revealing of artillery has been intergrated in many different games, and this is a rather grand change, which I can clearly see will need some balance, or some easier ways to counter, or else early armies with no air are in trouble. (don't know how they would balance it :/)

This allows the siege tank to be a very excellent raider now, with some drop ships, siege mode, fire a shot, un-siege move out, redeploy etc..

with a radar tower built in the immediate area of the siege tanks, they now exactly when to get the heck out of there, can't wait to try it.

(as you can see I play Terran and Protoss)

im cool with this, to me, it always seemed a little strange that you could see the unit that attacked you when he was in the fog of war.

I am also liking this. It makes it so you actually have to spend energy on making sure you can see every possible attack direction and will change strategies quite a bit.

I like this idea, makes long ranged units much better for assulting enemy bases and setting up ambushes on cliffs near chock points.

@Watcher, you'll just have to have cliff climbers or air units. Zerg would have no problem since they get overlords right away. Well, they may have a problem if they don't have the overlords with their army but that's their own fault. Don't protoss get obs the same time terran get siege tanks? If they don't that could be changed. Terran can get reapers to go find and kill those evil tanks, assuming they will live long enough to get close enough to either be within the tank's range or able to throw D8 charges before they die.

Indeed, i'll have to remedy that situation of the cliff climbers.  Perhaps an MnM front line? idk, but indeed those d8s would desrtoy those tanks, if the unseige mode is to slow.

But seriously the d8 countdown to explosion is very slow, not much use imo against units.

i'll have to watch the video again.

This will be fun to try out when the game arrives! Protoss ftw, just imagine if you were building your base, and a cliff next to you lights up with colossus beams aiming down on your buildings and units :)

well a couple thing to add to this

    1. thing is we know there is going to be units that are able to jump hills and teleport (reaper/stalker) so we know ambushes in this way will take place... supporting your idea

    2. At leaste for Terran we know that they have the sensor tower so these kind of attacks will not take place as much on them ><

I agree with your second point, but it would only affect offencive ambushes. Defensive ambushes near your own base shouldn't be affected by the tower unless terran places one near your base to keep tabs on where you're expanding.

and once again eonmaster counters carlsjr11

but mabey if the tower had the ability have your units attack when it sensed something then it would work as on offensive unit as well

however, the tower only has limited range. You would need to build towers near your enemies base to be able to detect any defencive ambushes. But to get your SCV that close is putting it at a risk of being destroyed.

Also, if I remember correctly. All players can see where to edge of the radar's detection range is. So if you built a tower near an enemy base, they would see the boundary line and lnow you built a tower nearby, and would most likely go out to destroy it.

I like this change. It adds a lot more realism to the game, and now you really have to try find the attackers, since you can't see them automatically anymore.

Definitely makes ambushes much more useful than in the original sc. Now placing tanks and other ranges units on ledges will be a lot better and won't guarantee that some aircraft wont come in 10 seconds and kill them.

No, I dont think it can. That would be unbalanced, of course.
And lore-wise, the dropship does'nt really pick it up :p
The Siege Tank probably rolls into the cargo space.
