So, I'm playing my placement matches today, and I just get around to noticing that the Protoss is spamming this ability quite handily when I started the first of my four infantry + mech attacks against his ridiculously fortified base. And when I mean Spam, I think he had around 8 or so sentries all using it at once . I managed to destroy his force(10 or so stalkers, 15 zealots, a few dark templar and immortals, and sentries), but it took a bit longer than normal and I sustained casualties. Is this a particular ability I should be worried about as a Terran, and if so, are there any decent counters to this ability?

I would think that high damage attacks would be considered the counter because the guardian shield decreases a smaller proportion of the damage since it's fixed at 2 points IIRC.

Guardian shield reduces all incoming ranged attacks by -2 damage. BUT it does not stack so him using multiple instances doesn't help him.

But if you focus fire on his Sentries first it should help out.

I see people just use 2-3 to be sure it covers their entire army. I think they may also do it so they don't have to put up another one if a sentry goes down, or to make it harder to pick out what sentry is doing it.

I agree with Ragels, just have a few to cover your entire army, it would help against any ranged attacks.

Guardian shield is for newbies. Sentries are all about Hallucinate.

True. Hallucinating a Zealot gives you 400 extra HP rather than negating unnecessary damage. ;). But it does have to be researched!

I've never seen Hallucination used seriously. I could imagine it has some uses, but if I remember right it's energy cost is pretty high.

That's why you get a lot of Sentry's to use Hallucinate. I've seen it used in Starcraft 1, where someone had four Arbiters amongst 16+ Hallucinated Arbiters, and went through a mass of cannons, recalled an army of reavers, then bye bye cannons. It was funny =P

You should be much more concerned about sentries spamming a line of force field and cutting your army in half. This can be done with far less then 8.

hallucinate is very useful against zerg if they have infestors. you don't want your colossi to turn against you... or focused down too quickly.

  13. The videos i've seen show zerg to be in a worse position in comparison to terran versus sentry, as the force field can wall of the melee from reaching the ranged protoss
