For those who have read the patch notes, they'll have noticed that the Sentry Forcefield is now destructable by having a large unit trample over the top of it. Personally I didn't see this one coming, and have been wondering about the effects. Despite not being a major change, it'll give larger units an extra role and will make it difficult to use if the enemy has, say, a few Thors running around.

It looks like this is more of a realism or 'fun' change than a balance one from what i've seen. I've never heard anyone complain about the use of this ability in game. Although that's just how I interpret this. Does anyone else have thoughts on the matter? I just found this a bit weird is all. I never saw it coming, as opposed to the highly probable Void Ray nerf, for example.

There's been a series of Force Field nerfs recently. For instance, Vortex removes Force Fields since protoss players would wall off a group of enemy units and then, while they couldn't escape, Vortex the lot of them.

Ah that's inteesting. I only got SC2 recently so I was unaware of that. In which case I guess it would be a bit more expected if there is a history of FF nerfs.

yeah, for a lot of people with good micro, sentry is almost an instant-win unit. 6+ sentries can split almost any army in half, and he got to pick and choose his battles no matter how prepared his opponent was.

Not exactly. What they would do was Vortex an army, then place FF around the vortex. When the units came out again, you could aoe them down extremely fast.

That's a pretty neat tactic... not as much fun as vortex nukes though. ;-)

it's about as effective as a vortex nuke while being a lot cheaper.
