I once tried to rush using SCVs or drones less than minutes into the game back in old Starcraft and it actually worked lol.. Have not tried the equivalent for Starcraft 2.. Maybe someone else may have...?
I've seen them used to aid early infantry once or twice, I really don't think it's worth it. Even on like, Steppes of War the amount of time that you lose is enough from your opponent to bulld up enough to hold you off.
unless you are protoss and you micro your probes so that they keep regenerating their shields, so you gain the upper hand. but i don't really see this working out... or fun lol :X
Have only heard it working in teams, since two protoss then can "bully" one player to death with their combined probes. But in a 1v1, unless you are like a gold player against a bronze, it wont work.
In SC1 the SCVs had more HPs relative to Probes/Drones. I seem to recall you could also repair SCVs. In SC2 this advantage doesn't exist, so pure SCV rushing is harder to pull off unless your micro is far above your opponent's, in which case an SCV rush probably doesn't have much value even as a suprise gimmick strategy. The exception is 2x SCV rushing on small maps like LT, but even then, if the opponent's are good you're probably doomed. The guy you rush won't make it easy on you, and the guy you didn't is going to easily cream one of you and be far, far ahead of economy on the other. A bit more sound, but still a major gambling and utter cheeseball tactic, are SCV+ rushes, where you send your SCV 'army' but as support for Marines (pathing shield while Marines rain down hell) or in the case of a Planetary Fortress rush, for your Command Center and to 'start over' at the opponent's base. Then there is the most sound use, which is to bring some a long to build a bunker for pushing/rushing, or to repair mechanical units, etc.
