SC2 Release Date Confirmed

Drumroll please! *ratatatatatatatata* thank you... It's the moment every person who has ever visited this site has been waiting for. The arrival of an "official" StarCraft 2 release date. Blizzard Entertainment announced in a press release today that StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be released to retail on July 27th, 2010.

StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty™, will arrive in stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau starting on July 27, 2010. Players will also be able to purchase StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty directly from Blizzard Entertainment shortly after the retail launch.

This press release essentially means players can plan on pre-ordering their copy and should have a solid date to expect delivery. Retailers like GameStop and Amazon have been running promotions offering free beta access with an order. All that remains now is to see how long the lines will be at midnight on the 26th.

"We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe for many years, and we're excited that the time for that is almost here," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Thanks to our beta testers, we're making great progress on the final stages of development, and we'll be ready to welcome players all over the world to StarCraft II and the new Battle.net® in just a few months."

And we'll be just as excited to sign in. To all of our loyal readers, consider this our blessing to go out and pre-order your copy of StarCraft 2. That time has finally come.

This might be an odd question, but do you think the two expansions will have the same requirements to play as WoL? I can't see why not, they'll be using the same engine right?

 

well yeah but that doesnt mean that the engine cant get improved...that being said i believe that they can possibly add some new features on graphics and stuff like that

Nice, nice. We'll be into summer enough to see prices drop on hardware, it's already happening round my end. I'll be sure to pick up my new rig at around 20 July. The beta didn't get me hyped enough.

 

Freaking epic. xD I found out last night around 12 am while I was doing homework and actually made my girlfriend turn off her phone because I exploded with excitment and needed to tell someone. lol

They made that statement to back up the thread for this very moment...so for that person who mentioned nit-picky people, that's me, and I'm calling out all those trying to make that obvious joke.


Oh and, I'm just as pleased that we finally have a date set. Text just can't mimic that feeling, yet maybe a smile can, ^_^

 

Why are you all so ****ing happy about knowing the release date?
Obviously it is a couple of months after beta, so this is no surprise to see.

And honestly I don't see how putting the release date at the start of school makes it such a wonderful date. I was hoping I could spend at least 2 weeks of my free time.
