Hi All I can't wait for the two SC2 expansion packs to come out, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. The story is getting more intriguing and I am curious as of what will happen. Also Blizzard has announced new multiplayer units for all races in the Heart of the Swarm expansion giving you more choices for tactical options and strategy. On that note what does everyone think of the new expansion multiplayer units so far? Here is the URL of the new units I am talking about: http://www.gamesradar.com/starcraft-ii-heart-swarm-new-multiplayer-units-and-balance-changes/
Well so far they have only replaced 3 units; the Mothership (Never really found much use for it, no real loss IMO), the overseer (I only used them cause they are detectors and I like their contaminate ability, IMO they can give these abilities to the overlord) and the Carrier (don't use it much it is okay but not a great capital ship). I am not sure though whether they are replacing the siege tank with the shredder or just adding the shredder as a 4th factory unit. As for changes made to units that are staying well I know the Zerg it looks like are going to me more dangerous now. The Banelings can move while burrowed and the Ultralisks has a charge attack. Whether these upgrades will make the game unbalanced and the Zerg OP I don't know but the game is still under development according to blizzards site so it can still change.
I think they are making the Zerg way OP on this. Banelings can move while burrowed? Seriously wtf? Thats just too easy to cheese lair tech early, burrow into someones base and completely decimate it long before they have detection. Just shudder to think of my nexus exploding only a couple of minutes in. Also, how can you remove the carrier? Its iconic. It may not be used much, or all powerful, but it's still iconic.
True. Remember the endless forum discussions when the tempest was announced as a replacement for the carrier? Edit: Hrm, the new replacement for the carrier is also named tempest. That is going to make discussion a bit confusing.
The units are all retarded. The Viper 's grab is gimmicky and way too powerful midgame Swarm Host...the Lurker would fit well with what Blizzard is trying to accomplish. Spawning units? It would be hard to balance that (imo). Besides, Zerg doesn't need map control, they already have it for the most part. Warhound. Terran already has the marauder to deal with mech... Also, just say "Goliath" anyone?? Shredder is so imba and so bad. cheap map control, for what reason? ur army cant be there; its just gonna die and no little dmg. Or do too MUCH dmg, in which case it would be imba. Another "Terrible, Terrible Damage" design adding to a Terrible, Terrible design overall. SuperThor: This isn't ****ing WarCraft in Space. At least they took out Mothership. Give us Arbiters. Tempest: a super-slow unit that is supposed to ward off mutas. So, what am I supposed to like 3 of these to defend my main and natural? Cuz I don't see them catching mutas anytime soon. Give us a corsair or sumthing. Oracle..okay. It might be imba. Replicator: No. Terrible unit design. Give us Dark Archon or sumthing. Why would I want to use massive resources to replicate one unit. Actually it could have some use like Colossus-replication (but its PvP ur gonna have Colossi anyways...) or banshee replication (which would lead the meta to nvr use air vs. toss)
There's has been an update on the units, I don't know if any of you already know. I read it from the blizzard or battle.net I cant remember which one. The news is the shredder has been scrapped (no surprise there) for the Terran as well as the Warhound. They still could of had the Shredder if they just nerfed it. Like maybe just make it do less damage against armored or mech units and massive units and make it only effect ground units. Now Blizzard are back to square one with Terran. I hope at least they add one new unit for the Terran. The Zerg by the looks of now have three casters cause in the article I read they mentioned something about the overseer staying and it in the process of having new abilities. There was nothing in the article about replacing the infestor with the viper so it looks like it will be added along with the infestor. I like the swarm host though, I reckon they should keep that unit if they can't brink back the lurker. The Protoss Replicant has been scrapped. http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/48...Heart_of_the_Swarm_Multiplayer-4_11_2012#blog
The "extremely long-ranged terran missile launcher" sounds like it could be interesting. I'm honestly a bit surprised at the sheer amount of changes. Heart of the swarm was already in the works when wings of liberty was being finished and one of the first things you'd want to do is design the new units. So they've probably already gone through a few dozen unit ideas before they came out with their original ideas. Yet these ideas are almost all dismissed as well.
Well hopefully if the Tempest remains as the new Protoss capital ship the carrier will still make an appearance in the Heart of the Swarm campaign and/or in the editor so you can use in custom games. Oh, that reminds me, I hope Heart of the Swarm joins with the editor so you can create maps from the expansion.
Considering the carrier is already in the editor, I have zero doubt that it will be removed from there.
Kerrigan clashed with the protoss on Kaldir. It seemed to me those protoss were guarding a low-priority base, so they'd have older technology, such as carriers. (In fact, the base was so small, I wonder if they had any capital ships at all.) While we've only got detailed information on one mission on Kaldir, there's actually several, so there's rooms for ship-to-muta combat if Blizzard wishes.
The viper probably will be nerfed and/or will get balance updates. If they make the grab attack have a slow cooldown or make it use a lot of energy for that ability it should be okay. Maybe they can make certain units be immune to that ability eg. siege tanks in siege mode.
