Hi everyone! The other day I was thinking over the 'purpose' of the blog I keep, I (reluctantly) had to admit that all I did was collect news regarding StarCraft 2 (which can be found elsewhere, be it in bits and pieces) and work on the Excel game (which will still take a long time to publish). That 'insight' be it, made me think about what else I could do to give this blog more value; daily screenshots! Daily Screenshots may sound boring at first, but I believe that it may actually be quite interesting (for me, to improve my play) and hopefully for you as well. Basically what I am going to do is capture some interesting screenshots from my games. These will be screenshots of situations that changed the outcome of the game, in other words, situations that tilted the game in either my, or my opponents favour. I will be playing Terran unless mentioned differently. Let's begin! Daily Screenshot #1: Terran (aethsilgne) vs Protoss (PureAqua) Map: Jungle Basin Duration: 20:01 I have to admit that I'm not such a great player. I play only casually (Gold League), varying from a few games a day to a few games a week depending on how much time I have. The idea is to play at least one game each day to keep this 'daily screenshot' feature going. The game started off normally, no cheese, standard builds. I was put of a bit by a probe harassing me with good micro. Once I knew I was playing vs Protoss with late gas I decided to get Marauders with Ghosts (EMP is amazing!). Once I felt confident I attacked. The above picture shows a few important things. I used EMP on his force, he blocked his ramp with a clever Force Field, he had the advantage of higher ground and a defensive cannon. This attack went completely wrong for me. I didn't have any micro, the best course of action would have been to retreat and gain map control with an isolated opponent. Instead my forces were annihilated and I hardly did any damage. The next screenshot shows me trying to pull of a drop. The same problem happens again, bad micro. I could have won this fight and deal a lot of economic damage. Instead I retreated with my Medivacs (why oh why?!). As I said I retreated my forces (a fully loaded Medivac gets shot down in the process) and tried to get the game back into my hands. In the mean time my opponent was starting to get his 3rd expansion whilst I was still on two bases only. Once I had another sizeable army I decided to move out once again. Costing me the game. Again bad micro on my part and my opponents army was simply bigger than mine. GG. I thought I'd post this first 'daily screenshot' feature here as well to see what you guys think. If there are any positive reactions I'll keep updating this thread Thanks for your time!
Nah, just reactor a couple starports and beat them to death with vikings while pumping out marauders to beat the expected stalker pop growth... With no stalkers vikings tear colossi and with no colossi rauders beat stalkers so it's a win/win
I might have been able to handle those Colossus with some proper micro...but I had no micro, whatsoever, throughout the entire game.
Another daily screenshot has arrived!! This time I will be reviewing a 2v2 game on War Zone, it was a pretty bad game overall but on the positive side it was quite fun to play. I had just played a few (and our first) co-op games with 'spacker" from SC2Forum.org and after winning a few we decided to see what we were worth versus real opponents. Daily Screenshot #2: Terran (aethsilgne) + Zerg (spacker) vs Random (Azazel) + Terran (Castiel) Map: War Zone Duration: 29:18 After a quick scout (I can't emphasize enough how important it is to keep scouting!) it appeared that the Random player had spawned as Terran. My teammate decided to go for roaches (excellent units vs bio) and I started with two Refineries before my Barracks had finished in order to get some fast Banshees. Unfortunately for me once my Starports were finished my opponent casted a scan and saw what I was up to. Having two early Starports I decided to go ahead with my plan; pump out two Banshees and harass them as much as I can. As you can see in the screenshot below my opponents were in the process of getting up some Turrets to counter my Banshees. I arrived just in time to do some quick damage. Since my plan didn't exactly work out (I kept my Banshees alive) and had two Starports I started pumping Ravens. This is a really underused unit, I recommend always sending a Raven or two with your main force. Amateur as I am I decided to spam Ravens and see what damage I could do , tons apparently. I was even rewarded with a brand new achievement - Auto-kill: Using Auto-Turrets, destroy 20 worker units in a single League game. Unfortunately I soon realised my main force was actually non-existent, and here came our opponents for a counter-attack. They almost succeeded at winning the game at this point but little did they (and I!) know that I still had some Ravens in my base. I set of a Seeker Missile which did tons of 'terrible terrible damage!'. Despite all the damage they still got through to my main, where in an epic (not really actually) battle all four players showed each other what they were worth - we came out ahead. After some more harassing with our Banshees (they both had 12 kills before they were taken down!) and Mutalisks one final battle took place involving all the possible air units in the game (except Protoss of course) BattleCruisers, Medivacs, Banshees, Ravens, Overlord, Mutalisks, those things that evolve from Mutalisks and Vikings, tanks, Marauders, Marines you name it! After beating down our opponents (that'll teach them!) I bust through the rocks protecting my opponents base with a small but deadly force consisting of Tanks, Marines and one heroic SCV leading the army forwards. Our opponents GGd out of the game and we couldn't believe how terrible the game was we just played. What did we learn? For one I had a LOT of minerals in the bank, I noticed that once I deviate from my standard build I can't seem to get back to a normal game so I need to learn to play more 'steady' for lack of a better word. There was some micro in the game but this time macro was no where to be seen. Overall a pretty bad (noob!) game but hey, we won!
