Eh, that is what a lot people have already been guess at. Also, no dates were given and only a tentative by the end of the year line was given. We have heard that same line before and had nothing come of it.

 

I do like to hear it from Blizzard though; they haven't commited to any sort of release date, and they're still playing the ''ship when it's ready'' card, but it is SOMETHING, at long last.

 

Finally they begin giving release information!

 

hmm, i doubt it like all of blizzard's release dates. Something always comes up and it gets delayed.

That's just a restatement of what Blizzard's already said. They promised a 2009 release MONTHS ago.

I waited eleven years and two of those have been with a foaming mouth. For me, a few more months is nothing; especially, when you consider the benefits it will have in the long run.

As for you, is a few more months really that big of a deal? Are you just now starting to hype this game?

 

It's funny how the guy who made this thread just completely ignored this post. Isn't it?

I wouldn't be surprised if it is delayed. Happens often enough, just something you get prepared for.

Would be funny if they delayed it till April 1st.

This is pretty much certain though. If the beta starts this summer then a ~2009 is release is pretty much guaranteed. Granted, it might be February at the latest, but it will be soon after the beta starts. That's for sure.

The only thing that could hold it back is a disastrous beta where the developers are inclined to go back into development like the original StarCraft.

 

First: I didn't ignore that post. Second, they've mentionned the possibility of a 2009 release, but not since they announced the beta, which is why I find this ''announcement'' very encouraging.

All these other vagueries such as ''We're trying for a 2008 release'' and such rubbish was all about priming the pump; they knew they weren't going to release it then, but they didn't want to reveal that prematurely as not to kill the anticipation. But they've announced a beta for this summer, which lends greater credence to an end of 2009 target. However, Tychus is right: the Beta could be a disaster (God forbid!). They will have to start the beta by mid-August at the very latest to meet this target.

Or maybe they know they won't meet this target, and they enjoy torturing us?

 

I want to believe Mike M., its the first actual confirmation I think weve had (that report from activision doesnt count). But if I dont see the beta by the end of July, I think theyll have a hard time reaching this goal, without screwing up the game.

 

Wow, Activision-Blizzard is LETHAL with Modern Warfare 2 and Starcraft 2. That's like the master-class video game maker of online shooter AND RTS. God-like. Lets all shudder.

 

That is EXTREMELY unlikely. Maybe Starcraft 2 will be canceled if Blizz HQ is struck by a meteor, right? Their development team has come a very long way since the original, and doesn't even comprise all of the same people. It will be released, probably in november, and don't be surprised if the beta starts in June!

 

The person who was so convinced that the beta would start in March is telling me something is unlikely. Hilarious. Let me guess, you thought StarCraft 2 was going to be released in 2008.

Regardless, I never said it was likely. Actually, if you read what I said, you know know that I stated that I felt that it was unlikely. So, I agree with you.

Also, what happened to your theory that StarCraft 2 would be released in August? You said you felt that way only a few weeks ago.
