    Hi,
    I have a Dell E6510,i7, Win Pro 7, 4G RAM. Nvidia NVS3100M GPU.

SC2 would freeze either during game or while watching replays. Happened at random, could be 5 min or 15min with sounds still playing ( at that instance). Tried reinstalling Window twice, SC2 twice to no avail. Drivers etc..
    Search everywhere for solution.

    Thanks in advance

Your trying to game on an nVidia Quadro graphics card? These are made for professional rendering for stuff like 3D movies and CAD! The default driver is not optimized for gaming at all!

More information on the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 3100M.

I will wager you are using the official Quadro graphics card driver for Windows 7 64-bit. Now, if you are using this laptop to do any professional CAD or 3D rendering, you will want to leave this driver installed. But if you did buy this for home use, you may be able to ask around on laptopvideo2go.com's forums to see if anyone has modified nVidia GeForce 258.96 drivers to work for that chipset. Someone might be able to mod them for you so they will work (this is the old school trick to get a cheap Quadro using a normal GeForce card... should work both ways)!

What is the primary usage of this laptop? There are ways to install both drivers at the same time and switch between them (using hardware profiles) if you need the machine for both. Let me know.

    Thanks Xev,
I bought the machine mainly for home use. It was on sale at half price, thought it would be ok for gaming too. (Not serious, i only play SC 2, no other game). My other lappy an Inspiron i3 on Hoime Premium 64 bit with GMA runs it well on lowest setting so i thought what the heck, higher spec one should at least be able to run without hanging. I dont really care about how it looks, lowest setting is ok. My 3 y old desktop on XP and my iMac on OSX 10.6 run it with no problems so far.
I don't use this for CAD so no need for switching between drivers, would be grateful if you could help out with the drivers.

Well, there are a few problems even in hacking a driver... the first would be figuring out what card to make it "think" it is, the 2nd would going threw the hassle of making Windows 7 64-bit allow non-signed drivers.

You could also try this beta driver.

Most people are reporting (from the threads I was reading) that StarCraft II would get about 20fps at medium settings. I wonder how much fudging can be done? I could possibly try moding the inf files, but I'm not sure if that is all that needs to be done.

Skip that... lets try this instead. If this doesn't work, I somehow inf moding would.

Check out this article on softmoding a GeForce into Quadro. Ask around in this thread about the article and see if anyone knows if its possible to go in reverse. Seems after the 8 series nVidia cards came out, that it was no longer possible to mod a GeForce into a Quadro, but I don't know why nVidia would disable the ability to go in reverse (since your technically making the card a lower end "gaming" variant).

You could try that softmods instructions, except doing it in reverse. Just skip to step 2 and try to use Rivatuner to mod your card into a "GeForce G210M." Then if that worked (if you even have the option in RivaTuner to do it), you would then install the nVidia GeForce display driver.

Let me know if that somehow works for you, cause I'd be awesome if it does. I somehow think you won't be able to mod the ID string using RivaTuner... but here's to hoping you can!

    Xev,
    First thing first.
I'm not sure whether Rivatuner installed correctly or not. There was a warning about unsigned driver and you cant install that onto Win7 Pro.
Anyways, got it running with a main page that just showed my GPU with no mean to even tinker with it.

Yes you are right, i'm using the official Nvidia 258.96 driver but even after installing the 260.xx from laptopvideo2go.com i'm still facing the same issue with the inability to access nvidia control panel. Now i'm back on the original 258.96 driver.

Am keen find out ways to trick my GPU into 'gaming' one but i can't find any guide out there (yet).

I suppose for now, i have to wait until a newer driver is out or i'll just sell off this lappy or just restrict this to just for watching replays.

Now, any non gamer out there looking for a cheap Dell i7 4G RAM with a 1920X1080 display :) ?
