I too, was a fool and bought SC2. Sadly, I installed the game and decided id register on battle.net while installing. Site down! Oh well...anyone knows Battle.net is a HUGE mistake for blizzard to make...but they want control and have grown large enough to only understand greed from a short term profit basis.

I installed the game and thought...."Well....ill just play singleplayer for now." WRONG!!!! Battle.net down! Cant even play single player. I think im just gonna just unistall this piece of crap game.

Maybe they'll release a production version in the next few months.

    EPIC FAIL :(

So, because you can't play the game for an hour or so while they work out the kinks, the entire game is ruined?

Battle.net is a FREE service that has been around for a long time, including Starcraft 1. Battle.net 2.0 is an upgrade to an already existing FREE service. Do your research before you come trolling a forum about something you, obviously, don't understand.

On noes! The game just came out and there are a few problems with Battle.net so don't buy the game? Sheesh, not like this is some apocalyptic catastrophe. SC2 is just flat out amazing. Every game has some down time, but with their deep pockets, I don't expect Battle.Net to be down long or very often. Blizzard is not exactly hurting for money.

Well, you have no reason to be pissed. If you had the problem I have, then you'd have a reason to be pissed.

Also, Battle.net has NOT been a failure from Blizz, it is what made Warcraft 3 so popular, there would be no Garena (no custom games there, atleasr), no DotA tournaments, no custom games, no ladders, nothing.

If you want to know about my problem, check this link:

    http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16609

Also, i'm not the only one with this problem. If anyone has any idea how to fix it, please reply in my thread. There are other people reading the thread and waiting for answers...

Have to admit Battle.net has more problems that one desires... Here is my problem.
I have a WoW account, and a SC2 account with a beta key. All was fine, until the day I actually got my SC2 beta account... At this time is was about when they started selling those celestial steed horses. This greed didn't suit well with me as a inactive player paying $15 a month to hold my account for no reason really. So I canceled my WoW account.. So because I have a canceled wow account, the coder coded the site so ridiculously (I am a web data db programmer so I could see his mistake) That because my WoW account was canceled, it banned me from participating in the Blizzard SC2 forums, and still to this date, I can't register my retail copy, and I have been through Blizzard support at least 45 times, with the support moron, telling me that the SC2 forums are disabled, even though you can see new posts every 1 minute... I specifically told them their bad design mistakes on how its blocking me because it thinks my account is canceled due to it scanning wow first... And blocking me from forums on all other games.. But to get them to even comprehend this was a a worse problem then solving where do babies come from. I ended up swearing many times trying to get someones attention.. All it got me was Blizzard replies saying not to swear at their stupid employee's. At this point I'd like to swear some more.. Please point me to the nearest supervisor, i have some wonderful words for them.. Anyhow

Might be good when it works, but It's a horrible service when it don't with no resolve with no support.. I am here because I can't be on the official forums :/

While the first post is obviously a troll or a rant, he does bring up some good points. A lot of the game is tied to Battle.net. While I'm not against requiring people to activate to prevent piracy, requiring a constant internet connection for things such as achievements which could easily be stored locally and uploaded to Battle.net when an internet connection becomes available is frustrating. The Blizzard downloader should have come with p2p disabled by default. They should also have made the patch available for download and not limit it as part of the installation only. I installed SC2 on four computers (primarily for hardware testing) and that means having to download the patch 4 times. My ISP has a monthly bandwidth cap so you can see how having to download the same thing over and over can be frustrating, not to mention I'm putting unnecessary load on Blizzard's servers. If they had made the patch available via simple HTTP or FTP download, I just need to download once and I could have used the local copy to patch all computers.

I do have to give Blizzard props for the guest accounts. I don't know if it's per computer or per license but it's pretty useful if someone wants to play the campaign or vs AI but you don't want them to mess with your Bnet account.

That said, I'm still going to play SC2. It's fun and I can live with the limitations. Doesn't mean I have to like them, though.

People could then find the file on their hard disk containing their achievements, edit it, and next thing we know everyone has -2147483648 achievement points.

I believe the patches are separate files/directories on the hard disk. Look in the SC2/Versions folder.

I'm wondering how common these problems we've been hearing about are, and how common these unhappy feelings are among players. How much word of them will get around, and will that in turn deter prospective customers?

People that don't check specs before buying a game, that have outdated computers, outdated broadband, or weak routers should not hold Blizzard responsible. Blizzard has been careful to make sure a wide scope of users are able to play the game. Though they want to keep the late laggards, they also have to appeal to early adopters through high tech gaming somewhat. So Stuff
