Anyone thought about using the Overlords creep dump to proxy a roach warren, then research burrow?

Then maybe leave units in your base like zerglings and have all your roaches burrowed, when the opponent comes in to attack your base pop the roaches....roach surprise!

I suppose the overlord creep/proxy trick could be used with about any structure you wanted to keep hidden from your opponent...at least I learned something out of this post.

Roach warren, ehhh not so sure. Most people get roaches before the lair pops up. Other structures YES, muta surprise ftw.

    just gave me an idea.

in the same vein as proxy photon cannons

could you research overlord research thing, load up drones and start spine crawling inside enemy base?

Unfortunately their spawn time is so long :| Thors can make it from one side of Blistering sands to another before they spawn, so any other unit can also make it :p
Also during beta Blizz nerfed the only Zerg cheese with proxy hatch by increasing burrow time of spine crawlers. I won one game against my friend diamond T this way before the nerf =D

Yes, but on most maps there is a good chance your opponent will have vision on the edge of his base by then and will kill the crawlers before they finish.

It is better to pre-position ovies outside their base's natural 'walls' (so you don't have to research speed) and slow-drop in roaches or banelings/speedlings for a hit on their resource line.

The strategy hails back to BW with lurkers, i.e. the "Lurker Elevator".

Note that doing this with Roaches is much more risky/hard to do than it was with lurkers, because burrow is a tier 2 tech at the lair....so you have 2 expensive and slow techs to research before you can do it (burrow and transport ability).

But baneling bombing someone's resource line can be a lot of fun :). It costs you a lot of gas, but if you can get them into the worker line you can decimate their economy pretty early on while you continue to expand/take map control.
