I think Protoss and Zerg should possibly or just Protoss get a regeneration of shield upgrade. It could be pretty useful for archons or any other unit. Since they are taking out shield battery, they should replace it with a shield regen upgrade to replace it. I don't know what rate it would regenerate at, but it should be faster than they are now.

This could be implemented as a need to attack and keep pressure, for if units just sit there, it would mean they heal up after a battle.

They've already modded it. The shields don't recharge in combat anymore, but as soon as they're out, it regens freaking fast.

I hope it does not regen too fast, though.

I thought they said they would add it back in if people had a demand for it. And they probably will, if what Fenix said was true. That would kind of make the emp an interesting team tool though...And I wouldn't worry Boydo, I imagine the shields only regenerate if the units aren’t being hit, or haven’t been hit for a certain time.

its just like shields in halo. when you haven't been hit for a few seconds, they'll start to regenerate rather quickly.

I wonder if Blizzard ever took into account OCD ppl, or any degree of OCD that good 'ol regular folks might have. I'm talking about when playing the Protoss, ever get that weird feeling when you're staring at a bunch of fully shield units only to see that they're health is irrevocably at 75%?

I hate that. They have no medic or anyway to restore health. It just feels so damn weird.

At any rate though, I do think a slight increase in shield regeneration might be good. But again, this is one of those things that seems cool when considered singularly, but then you think about the fact that Terrans can't even regen without the cost of minerals, and if the "free" regeneration of the other two races gets a lil out of hand, the whole thing would be grossly imbalanced. Anyway, let's see what happens I guess. I think whatever changes made to the regeneration in general should probably only be a slight tweak as opposed to any drastic changes.

It already existed in SC1, and from the looks of it, it's in SC2 as well. Nothing for Zerg though.

It's as Fenix said, go watch the gameplay demo vid closely, when the Protoss shield actually does regen, it's hella fast. And that was on normal game speed.

Remy, what are you referring to when you say that it already existed in SC1? Are you just speaking of the shield battery?

It's not like the game is set for release, right now they are probably tweaking the units to make sure they are just right (anyone who has made a game can tell you the tweaking can take forever). I'm sure they intend to take it down a notch. If they don't, the screaching terran & zerg fanboys (myself included) will ensure that a patch "fixes" the issue.

This is a list of regenerations in starcraft 1 from fastest to slowest

    1. Shield battery powered protoss shield regeneration
    2. medics healing infantry
    3. SCV repairing mechanicals
    4. Protoss shield self regeneration
    5. Zerg HP self regeneration

So the idea could work because the shield battery is taken out from stacraft 2. Unless there's high demand for it, the shield battery is gone. Having an upgrade for protoss to regenerate their shields faster is a viable idea and I would like to see it implemented. It does make sense too that a Protoss unit's shield only generate (rather quickly) outside of battle. Either way It's good.

There's also been numerous suggestions around this forum for Zerg units to regenerate their HP faster on a creep. And as well I remember someone suggested that protoss units regenerate faster in a phase prism's field. So the upgrade could be more viable than the above 2 ideas.

when you say regenerate faster on creep, do you mean like how undead units regenerated faster on blight? the regen rate in that wasnt too high, but it was noticable.

Like I said, the Protoss shield upgrade has existed since SC1, so there's not much point in asking for something that's already there.

Even though this is what Blizzard says on their website, "the Plasma Shield upgrade will add to the shield maximum for all units and buildings," that's not how it works. It doesn't raise the shield max of anything. If I'm not mistaken, what the shield upgrade did was increase shield regen rate.

So we're back to just improved regen for Zerg, and we have a whole bunch of "faster regen on creep" opinions all over the place already.

The shield upgrade added "armor" to the shield.

It had no effect on regen. A shield level 1 would act the same as armor level 1, and so on. It was the coolest thing about Cannons, because you could give them armor, in a sense.

I can't see any change in the regen ending well for Terran.....

Also, Archons are already hard enough to kill, don't make it so that if someone microes out of combat, that unit returns full strength. That would be insanity ;).

I do like the Zerg regen on Creep, and a faster Protoss regen would then be necessary, but I can't think of a simple solution for Terran since it does require repairs or medics for them to be healed. Perhaps they could get a very slow regen???

Who knows. But I do think if you impose these regen changes, there will have to be some sort of compensation on the Terran end... even extra damage might help.

terrans get to quickly restore any unit to full health. and SCVs now have autocast heal. Terrans have the best in terms of regen, except it costs money to use SCVs and you have to buy the medics.

this new idea seems a little op. I mean, it only takes like 60 seconds about for an archon to fully regen shields, and most of the time archons don't die from one attack at full health, so after you attack you just run back and heal.

Personally I prefer the old-fashioned SC1 style of continuous, albeit slower, shield regen.

That said, making Protoss only heal, and at a faster rate, when outside of battle will also further distinguish their racial identity from the Zerg, who heal constantly but slowly. Letting the Zerg heal faster on any creep (not just your own) would also move Zerg further away from Protoss, although if they remove shield batteries, Protoss will need some sort of boost.
