All my friends play COD4, but I stick to the good old Red Orchestra. I mean, COD4 is fun and all, but it doesn't bring out a certain feeling like Red Orchestra does. Wait, I'm assuming many of you haven't played this game, so... let me start over. Red Orchestra is a WWII that is based on Russia vs Germany and aims for realism. No health bar, if your hand gets shot you drop your gun, you can sprain you legs from falling (yes you become slower), you can't tell when you have to reload because there is no ammo count (just magazine counts), no crosshair so you have to rely on aiming, and you basically die in 1-2 shots. It may sound annoying, but it's not. It's quite fun and hard and the atmosphere is pretty amazing. Artillery blowing up everywhere, comrades dieing in front of you, everyone taking cover behind a hill, and you trying to survive. That being said... Does anyone else still play, or is interested in playing? Since I mostly lone-wolf this game, it would be nice to have a buddy to depend on when defending the trenches
Sounds and looks nice (checked it on Youtube), but I absolutely hate Steam, so I won't even look for a demo. I tried downloading HL2 demo a few weeks ago and was like wtf is this login ****? I'm not going to install some ad program that needs registering just to play a freaking demo.
Yah, you can barely play anything offline anymore with steam, even single player games, but I suppose you get used to it if you've had it as long as I have. It does have its benefits, VAC (anti cheat), organizes your games (you can put blizzard games on it too). It's like combining B.net with Itunes, but for multiple games.
My friend from another forum threw me a one month trial, fell in love with the game, but never bought the full thing. And I really agree with you on the atmosphere. I'd get so immersed in the game, I was actually frightened for my soldier at times.
As much as Red Orchestra does look like a good game, I think I will stick to COD4. For some reason, RO just doesn't really appeal to me all that much.
